Duh question about memory foam mattress topper!

Where do you put this thing? On top the mattress, then the mattres pad, fitted sheet, etc?
Feel like an idiot asking but I really don't know the answer! Mattress topper makes me thing duh, put it on top the mattress but.....I'm just not sure! Thanks!!!
