Re: Does it really look that bad?

@Goldenmoher

She did very well. She came home and immediately assumed her position on her throne.  All is well, thank you for asking.

I'd love to see a photo of that Lenox tablecloth if you don't mind posting one.

My tablecloth is already packed along with my other linens but this is a photo:

It matches my Christmas Lenox holly china I started collecting as a teenager -- my dad bought me a place setting every year until I had a service for 12.  I have all the completer pieces including the gold plated flatware w/holly pattern from the 80s. (Made in USA)   I always loved it and I used it from Thanksgiving thru January for many wonderful memorable holiday entertaining over the years.

I have boxed it up to pass onto my niece as she now hosts our holiday dinners at her beautiful home.

How absolutely beautiful!

I love it!!!

I wish I had a home big enough to keep a set of dinnerware just for the holidays.  What a precious gift that is for your niece 💞

Re: Does it really look that bad?

@house_cat  I grew up in a house where my mom put plastic on everything. She put in on the couch, living room chairs, dining room chairs & the dining room table. When my mom passed away the plastic was still there. The furniture had outlived her.

I understand where your coming from. I also understand your DH & son's points of view too.You bought it to enjoy it.My suggestion is to not coddle it.Life is too short. It shouldn't outlive you.

Re: Does it really look that bad?

@house_cat, not my style. It seems as if the plastic it too thick and needs shaping. I would shape the corners by making them round and it might hang better over the tablecloth.

A piece of glass the same size of the table will also show off the tablecloth.

Speaking of plastic covering. I remember an episode of ¨King of Queens¨ when the family were having dinner at Marie¨s. The furniture was covered in plastic. After teasing her about it, she showed them that she could change by taking it off. It only lasted a few minutes after watching them eating snacks on her living room furniture. Back on they went.

Re: Does it really look that bad?

I think it’s just the corners that’s making it look bad.

I would do something to make them fit snug to the table, some kind of slit and closure.

Failing that, I would do the glass top thing.

Also, if I could be bold, I feel the two vintage style tin pictures over the chair, detract rather than add to the room. I would move those to the kitchen.

Re: Does it really look that bad?

I've been giving it thought and if the plastic is meant to stay, make it a design elements. Cut slits in the plastic four or five inches down from the top of the table and lace red ribbon through them with a bow at each corner. It will also anchor the plastic and keep it from sliding about.

Re: Does it really look that bad?

I think that would be a distraction. People would be looking at the ribbon and bows instead of the tablecloth.

Years ago when we had a home day care, we bought a very thick plastic from the fabric store and cut it to the size of the kids tables. Some were round and some were square. We only covered the top

and that was to prevent the kids from coloring and marking up the tables. The plastic stayed in one place and  we cleaned it at the end of the day

I may have commented about your Christmas Lenox in the past in other threads, but I think this is truly a most timeless and elegant pattern. It never looks dated, always looks just seasonal enough without screaming Christmas, is something I would use all winter long.

I've admired this pattern for many years. I've never had china, but this would be among my choices if I did. I never tire of seeing it.

That tablecloth is gorgeous.   My two nicest ones are 102 and 120 inches respectively.  Wish I owned this one, with napkins, in an 84 inch length.
