Crystal and silverware anymore? I gave my china and silverware to my niece and she has not used it. I have crystal that I am going to try and sell as only 2 glasses were ever used. I don't think most people entertain like that anymore with China, etc. I am right about this? Or, do people still entertain with China, silverware and crystal? Do you also purchase as china, etc.as wedding gifts? ![]()

I have Lenox China and International Sterling Silver flatware, and I use everything on holidays and for special dinners.
We recently attended a wedding and the bride had Lenox on her registry list. It wasn't "fine" china, but very pretty "daily" dinnerware.
I never wanted crystal, and never used anything fanc by way of glassware.

I haven't used my fine china in years. I have an off white Pflatzgraff set of everyday plates I use every day. My neighbor's mother passed away a few months ago and they had an estate auction. They sold a four piece, eight place setting of Noritake china including serving bowls and meat platter for $30.00. The neighbor bought it herself rather than let it go at that price. I just don't think most people entertain like that anymore. I don't at any rate. I still have my mother's silverware and I gave my crystal glasses to my SIL ten years ago!

I believe some people getting married register for china and silver. In my circles no one has it or seems interested in it. I feel it takes up room just to get used a few times a year. This could be a socioeconomic thing and I don't fall into that category. Interesting question.

My mother gave me her China and silver. I haven't used it.

I've been married for almost 16 years and haven't used my Lenox china. It doesn't bother me that I haven't used it, I just like it and do enjoy looking at it in my china hutch. We just moved into a house that fits my china hutch and dining table so that makes me happy. I have, however, used my crystal.

Mine looks pretty in the china cabinet! I have used it for holidays when the kids were home a few times.
I love my Corelle. It is a pattern that looks like china.

When I got married the crystal, china and silverware were the IN gifts. I registered my patterns and hoped it would be my number one gift. With complete sets siting in my china cabinet.. just siting... I cannot give it away. And I have four daughters who tell me they don't want it, would not use it and are wondering why I am keeping it. Times do change. The only thing I could "melt down" would be the sterling. LOL The rest I might as well give it away.

I have all 3. Lenox china and stemware, paired with Oneida silverplated flatware and use it as often as I can. I also have a set of Lenox Christmas china.
As a kid my grandmother made Sunday dinner and we sat down to a table with china, silverware and linens. She instilled to be thankful for what we had. Sunday dinners & holidays were a lot of work but they were to be celebrated.
Maybe it is socio-economic? The same people who don't "bother" with Thanksgiving spend it shopping WM.
