We never go for walks in the neighborhood but when I drive by almost no one has their blinds or shutters open at night. Few people around here even open their blinds during the day. We keep everything shut to keep the heat out in summer. But in winter no one opens them either. I rarely open the shutters because I don't want anyone looking in.

@Meowingkitty

That is interesting.  I only have curtains/blinds that close on the bedroom and bathroom windows.  The sliding glass door and floor to ceiling windows in the family room only have a valance (that looks into garden).  The picture window in the living room (looking out to street)  also only has a valance.

Re: Do you peek into windows?

No, I don't do that! LOL! I guess I don't care how other people decorate their homes. I'm in an older town home and seeing what others do isn't a big deal for me. We generally close the blinds when it starts getting dark, so leaving my doors and windows open for people to look in is not something I'd want or need to do.

Re: Do you peek into windows?

'Overall', I like the idea.............

I'm guessing it depends on the neighborhood, and how safe it is.

Maybe, later in the year, during the holidays, someone here will post various photos of various decorated houses.

If it's proper to do so on this forum, that is.

Anyone here like to view various (world-wide) pictures of houses in different colors, all in a row?

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

Re: Do you peek into windows?

I have eyes and yes, if I drive by or walk by a home in the evening and the lighting allows for a fast admiring look, then yea I sure do.

*I enjoy it - it gives me inspiration for my own home...or art. it's a glance, not a study.

@house_cat  Yes, you may be nuts--to care what anybody else thinks! Smiley LOL It's hard not to glance toward lighted windows at night. If you want to offer something for people to look at, and it doesn't actually offend your housemate, why not?

Re: Do you peek into windows?

@house_cat   I have a one story country French house with a balcony and one room over the large foyer. The front door has side panels that lights can be seen from the street.
In the living room I have lights on timers and battery candles that can be seen a bit from the street. I can open the storm door and the Christmas tree in that living room can be seen also.
The foyer chandler is on a dimmer so it can be seen. A light is on a bar in the foyer and another on a chest. Lanterns are on a spiral wooden staircase going to the upstairs room.

In the Summer the curtains are drawn upstairs due to hot sun. In the Fall I have large lanterns in the French doors in front of the balcony. They can be seen from the street as can a white lit tree at Christmas.

The den is on the left off the foyer so people can't see in as is the kitchen and dining room. Bedrooms are in the other wing, just window candles at Christmas.
I LOVE the lights, they give a warm glow and are automatic.

Do I look in when walking at night and others have left the curtains and blinds open? yes. Of course i do. How could one not want to look? Harmless.

Re: Do you peek into windows?

I keep my front door open all day & close it after dark, my blinds are open also.  I like sunshine coming in.

My front area of my home is open concept so one can look straight thru right to see the golf course.  My back "wall" is 20' ft sliders opening onto lanai area.

My good friends walk every night -- they tell me they "love" to walk by early evening because all my candles are lit.   Today, I told them they are luminara flameless candles and they come on every night same time.

Many comment when I have my home fully decorated they enjoy seeing the candle glow...I have a lantern at my front door area.

Very few here ever have blinds or doors open.  Guess it's a treat for those who walk🙂

[ Edited ]

I especially did enjoy strolling by in the evenings when we lived in Colorado mountains and Idaho mountains, log homes really glow at night like jac-o --lanterns with all of their warm wood interiors. 😊

Re: Do you peek into windows?

NO front windows in my neighborhood.......6' cement walls enclose  side and back yards.
