Re: Do you peek into windows?

That 's why I dislike windows.  I do not want anyone to see inside my house.  I grew up in a house that had huge pictures windows all over and never felt any privacy.  There are several houses in my neighborhood that you can't help but see into.  I see it as an invason of privacy but if those that live there do not care what the public can see and I have seen things I cannot unsee well....

Re: Do you peek into windows?

I'm more concerned with how the room will look from inside rather than the outside view..

But, yes, when I used to walk at night, I'd take a peak inside if the curtains were open.

Re: Do you peek into windows?

Our music room is in the front of the house and it has a large picture window with a window seat.  There is a small table with a bonsai tree on it and a floor lamp nearby.  But the best decoration is our cat who loves to sleep in the window.

@house_cat No not to me. Wow ! How strange that you and I have never met and live so far away and think a like. But then again for all we know we could be related. And also you could be or have been my neighbor.

My home and most of the homes on my street and probably more than half on the island-- are elevated.

Our main floor is about 9 feet off the ground and there's a *Y* shaped staircase leading up to the front door.  You're looking through railings and the banister, not a clear view unless you're in the middle of the street.

We aren't eye level with the street and most houses aren't.  You can look up into a house but you're not really looking in from the sidewalk.

Also, I've always been aware of what people can and cannot see when they approach my front door.  I keep my entryway nice, inside and out.

Re: Do you peek into windows?

No.  I have shutters in my windows to the front of my house.  The shutters are usually almost shut, especially in the summer due to the heat.  However, I do keep the formal living room windows open during Christmas because our Christmas tree is in that room.  It has 3 large window with the tree in the middle and looks lovely.

I do like to look at homes at night to see what their chandelier looks like.  We've been looking for a new chandlier for a long time and can't find any we like.  I like to get ideas.

Re: Do you peek into windows?

At night I have always liked doing this,  whether walking or driving by, makes me feel good and cozy for some reason.  I love seeing a Christmas tree during the holidays in someones house all lit up from their window. And like seeing peoples candles, lights etc lit up. Gives me a warm feeling.

@house_cat

I have never peeked in the windows of anyone’s house.

Weird related story:

I went on vacation with my sisters last August. DH stayed home & worked on removing old plaster in the basement as part of our remodel. We keep the living room blinds up 1/4 of the way all the time.

A couple walking by on the sidewalk heard lots of strange noises from our house. They came up & peeked in our living room windows. Our dog started barking at them through the windows. DH came upstairs to see what was going on. The couple was getting ready to call the police! They thought someone was hurt or trapped.

I told DH upon returning that I guess we should appreciate their concern, but my DH thinks they should have MYOB.

@house_cat   Yes, for it is a welcoming gesture.  Like the candles (Luminara) in the window during holidays.  And, yes I do consider how the interior appears from outside?  Actually when decorating or during holidays, I will go outside to see the appearance through doors and windows at night when interior lights on.

I'm a peeker too.  And I am always aware of how my house looks on the inside from the street.
