Having very large double windows on the front, I try to keep from having a confetti effect. Not too good for a country house.![]()
Although the dining room curtains are cranberry, they're lined with cream.

@house_cat Yes, I know exactly what you mean! I think the glow from a house is charming, I believe Valerie and others that offer glowy vintage style Christmas items feel the same as well, clearly they sell, they definitely elicit an emotional response.
I thought this might happen, I placed several Bethlehem Lights candlesticks in the windows last Christmas, liked them so much they were never put away and remain in the windows.

Of course, I look--I understand that the OP does not mean looking as a voyeur.
One of the clearest and best memories I have doing just this was about 25 years ago when I walked the strand at Newport Beach, CA at night and was blown away by the views into the homes, which were obviously lit up and staged to be seen and admired. I'll never forget it. It was truly spectacular.

my sister, who loves decorating for every single holiday in the calendar, had their huge house designed around that idea. floor to ceiling windows, a big balcony on the second floor, and a rolling front lawn. every space is utilized come time to decorate, and a staff to do it. its been featured in architectural magazines.

Dusk is my favorite time. Ever since I was a kid, I loved to ride in the car at dusk....especially the weeks before Christmas. People would usually just be turning their lights on, often a pretty Christmas tree in the window....it always seemed so cozy and pretty.
I live alone now, and don't go out at night, usually...,so I do miss that!

We never go for walks in the neighborhood but when I drive by almost no one has their blinds or shutters open at night. Few people around here even open their blinds during the day. We keep everything shut to keep the heat out in summer. But in winter no one opens them either. I rarely open the shutters because I don't want anyone looking in.

I don't peek into windows unless it is obvious that you can look in but I don't stop and stare.
