we love our home, when we moved here 25 years ago, we thought it was going to be a short term home..husband travelled M-F, it is a ranch style landominium, no time to do yard work, etc..here we are now, loving it more everyday..no steps (except basement) nice wide doorways, 3 beds & 2 baths, perfect for us now..trying to keep it updated & looking forward to a new kitchen this year..once we get our basement emptied, I will be thrilled..

Good topic and I have a past friend, we just grew apart, my son said she used me for years and she did but anyway she never stays home, bought it three months after my head injury so that was almost 14 years ago and she started to remodel when she bought it and never finished, the kitchen does not have cabinet doors and facings on her doors are gone and now she is saving to move to California and retire early and live with her daughter and son in law and her grandbabies...........she will not get what she paid for the home and she is never home..........as for me, before my head injury I was gone a lot due to work but always wanted a nice home to enjoy while I was there, after loosing everything in 2015 I have built back up piece by piece in my flat that I moved to last April, I loved the rental home I was in and the front yard flower garden but do to the shootings I had to move in three days..........my flat is nice and small but safe and I have picked out every piece from flea markets and great sales at HSN or the Q or where ever and a few pieces have been given to me and I love it so since I am now 60 and purged my friends recently I have really worked harder on loving my home and since I am home a lot I might as well make this flat my palace.  No place like home.  IT IS SAD FOR THOSE THAT JUST STAY THE NIGHT IN THEIR HOME.  To me there is no place like home even if its only one room.  I hope to grow flowers this year that don't need sun as it is proven that gardening is good for us but I do not get the sun here as I did in my rental home..........I miss  that garden as I was out there every day but I have gotten some things to replace flowers.  A friend gave me a lion satute and I have some windchimes that change colors and one I got from the Q on sale that spins and glows changing color is so nice so those will be beautiful and are beautiful at night, so I am blessed. Love the flea markets, and our prices in our tiny town are good.

Re: e. Re: Do you enjoy your home?

I am sorry, I have lived places that I hated...........grew up in the funeral industry and so never had a home except with my first huband.........and that did not last but three years..........and it was not mine but his families and then there was the murder of a family member and we lost everything............so I know what it is like to not be happy in a home but I hope you can surround it with things you love and if you have a back yard that is great, my back yard I see ugly sites but I need to make my back area pretty this summer with something?

I hope you will lock your doors.  No matter where I live and I lived in a large city we locked everything and I still do..........we have shootings here and when I was visiting my sister I noticed some of her windows were unlocked and I told her THIS IS HOW PEOPLE GET IN............I just saw on teh news, late  news since I have HULU that a nurse was killed as someone entered her home with an unlocked door...............I never leave my doors unlocked or windows...........ever..............that is the first thing thieves and rapist look for, unlocked windows and doors.

This reads just like me except I go to flea markets ever so often as I only need maybe two pictures and that is all to complete my flat.   I want to find things for outside but really I don't need much I would like a table with umbrella........so I can sit out during the day but I also since we have so many misquitos and they never bite me, I bought some citranella candles on sale and will burn these.............this summer when the misquitos come out..........yet I don't have an outside table and I need one BECAUSE SOMEONE STOLE MY WHOLE SET last year at the rental house..............so I don't even know what kind of table to get........for outside and I don't have the money for a patio set.........I need one of those..........I have asked around on Facebook but no one has one for sale.

Like the rest have said, I love being home. We don't have a fancy home, but it's filled with cooking, laughter, music, books and it is spotless. I thank God when I clean that I have a home to clean because there are so many that don't.

I've enjoyed every home I've lived in. I especially enjoy the one I'm in now. We just recently retired and tore down our old cottage and built brand new a few years ago. I have to keep pinching myself whenever I look out my windows and see my favorite lake! The area we live in has great meaning and memories to us when we were young and newly married with little kids. I'm thrilled that the good lord has given us this gift now. Woman Happy

Great topic!

We downsized from a 3,000 sq foot home to this 1250 sq foot town home when  my kids "moved out".... or so we thought.  It would have been perfect for us, plenty of storage and an office that could double as a guest room.  Well, life often has other plans, and as it turns out my grown son has been living with us again for the last five years.  Of course we'd never turn him away, but not a day goes by when I don't think of how perfect this house was when we lived in it alone.  We're cramped now and make a lot of sacrifices for one another, but that's what families do.

No matter what, every home we've lived in has been my happy place.  There's nowhere I'd rather be.  Like you, OP, I have friends with gorgeous, sprawling homes who rarely spend time in them.  I don't think that's got anything to do with the house, just some people are homebodies and some are not.

Re: Do you enjoy your home?

[ Edited ]

When my husband and I retired in 2008, we considered moving to an over-55 community. After looking at developments in the areas where our daughters live, one In CT and the other in FL, we decided we really do love our home and we decided to stay where we've lived for decades. When we built our house, we chose the plans, hired a contractor, and built our home to our quality specifications, our taste, and our budget. My husband is very knowledgeable about construction, having supervised several projects in the hotel business, so we did things right. The house is in great shape and it's all paid for.

We've lived in our town for almost 50 years. We went to the university here and after we earned our graduate degrees, we worked at our alma mater for a combined total of 75 years. We have friends here and love the community. We may not be able to stay in our home forever. We may downsize or need to move to a one-story place some day but we'd like to spend at least a few more years in the home that has brought us so much joy and so many memories.
