Do You Talk About Decorating?

I came to this site thinking I was going to read all kinds of tips about decorating and reno's and things around the home. I may be in the wrong place since I am busy "refreshing" my décor. If this is the wrong place could you please let me know? Thanks.

Re: Do You Talk About Decorating?

You are in the correct place. There are a lot of great posters here with lots of ideas and sometimes photos.

What kind of refreshing are you doing? painting? accent pieces?

Re: Do You Talk About Decorating?

I am painting my kitchen walls a light gray. The wall extends all the way through the dining room (rather open floor plan). I think it is going to look great. I have freshened up our living room (light beige leather couches 2 of them) with accent pillows. Red, Grey and some yellow. It sounds awful but looks really great, everyone is wowed which has given me the confidence to do other rooms. The red, grey and yellow are also in my kitchen. Oh, the area rug in the living room is grey, and black...an abstract design. Quite smashing! {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Re: Do You Talk About Decorating?

Ms Raider - I know you'll love your light grey kitchen - that's the color of mine, with scarlet accents. I'm won't say it's because we live in Columbus OH and that it's always been scarlet & grey. I think you'll understand this!!!!!!!!

I'm so thrilled to say that hubby & I are finally doing a few upgrades in our (his) bathrm main floor. We're having the shower, shower pan, an d counter top re-done, a treatment whereby a bonding material is applied then a final coat of a bonding material that totally changes our current look. This application is called Miracle Method. Later this winter we're having the same process done on our kitchen counter top in a charcoal color.

Our home was built in the 19teens. Hubby's grandparents moved in 1920s, been there until 1985 when we moved in. We never did much to our kitchen, new appliances, removed carpet on the floor and installed Marmoleum, of course painted it a few times by now. Walls very light shade of grey. This kitchen is two-fold - kitchen where range/fridge are, then large 'pantry' where sink & all the cupboards are. In the 'kitchen', walls are (half way up) covered in something that looks like a grey tiled linoleum covering. I don't know the decorating history of what this material is/was WAY back when. It looks alright, cleans well but it's OLD and I'm tired of it. Certainly dates the kitchen. So this winter this stuff is coming down too. We think it's just drywall or plywood under it and hoping the walls are in good shape so we can just paint the entire walls now. Keeping it light grey b/c it works for us. If anyone of you out there knows what this wall covering is, or have seen it in YEARS past, pls let me know!!!

I'm also going to re-paint our hallway inside front door, up the stairs and hallway at upstairs. It's a soft teal now and I love it but I'm changing it to a light beigey to more match the living & dining which are the same color. I'll put up new drapes at 2 windows after I get that are painted. I'll have 2 new sheers made to match at my front dr & long narrow side window next to door and transit window above door.

End of this fall we're having the entire house alum siding power washed and fully painted, gutter work done too. What a diff this will make - the siding is so faded after ALL these years. The house is a pale yellow w/evergreen & brick red trim.

I absolutely cannot wait to get all of this work done - so excited!!!

Re: Do You Talk About Decorating?

Well, Ms. Pink, I think your plans for your house sound wonderful. I DO understand colors, especially silver and black AND orange and black AND Gold and Green (our A's). Thanks for telling me that your kitchen looks great in gray. I appreciate that because I finally settled on a color which is Bay Waves, Valspar color. I personally would have chosen something a bit darker but I have looked at and tried everything. Bay Waves it is. I am so nervous about this because this is my last chance to get it right. In fewer days than I want to think about, DH and I are going to be celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. I am really trying to get so many things done. {#emotions_dlg.wub}

Re: Do You Talk About Decorating?

Hi Raider and happy anniversary!!! People do post ideas here and talk about their adventures in decorating, and ask questions and ask for opinions, too. I learn so much Smiley Happy I'm liking the grays and silvers lately, too. Your choice sounds lovely! Valspar is a good brand and one I use often. Maybe I'll change out our sagey colors to something gray. I have a Kitchen Aid stand mixer in cinnamon and have that color as an accent so the right gray would look nice, too.

Pink dogwood, I adore the bungalows from the teens and twenties!! My Grandpop lived in one for many decades, and I remember the 'linoleum' stuff on the kitchen wall you wrote about. The main bathroom had the loveliest lemon yellow tile halfway up the walls. There were a lot of built-ins too. Those houses have such character and were so well built! You're ideas to redo yours sounds wonderful! Maybe there is a site you can find to learn what is under the original surface of these home's walls before tearing anything off.

Re: Do You Talk About Decorating?

Yes Ms Raider, Happy Anniversary - years of happiness, triumphs, and of course tribulations, and many more to come.

I think your color combos sound great. I love to paint b/c I love new colors but with all of the wood in my house, it takes SO long to get it prepped, taping off tons of old hard oak woodwork, covering the floors. It's so much more fun to un=do all of that and put your rooms back together and hopefully squeal with excitement!!!

Ms Framed, interesting you should note (my) home as a bungalow - never thought it as that. Honestly, I don't know what you'd call this era of home. Maybe I need to do some serious checking up on it. Our's is 3 stories not including a full cement unfinished basement. The third floor is totally liveable space, yes you can call it an attic but we've cleaned it up, painted it. Hm, bungalow - I'll have to do some research. I too love bungalows.
