Yes, it is interesting to see befores and afters but none of these styles are my taste at all. All the afters look so cluttered! Less furniture and knck-knacks would be much better.

Re: Design makeovers: Before and after

@lolakimono, if I'm honest, I love decor makeovers as much as fashion. I just moved into a new home, perfect in every way except the color in the LR. It is too light, and your first photo shows how much better it looks with darker walls. That will go on the to do list! Thank you.

Thanks, @lolakimono

Looks like posters are fairly evenly-divided between liking Emily's taste or not.

Here's a shot from Lara's newest book that made me think the style was a bit similar:

Thanks for posting all the pics! I must be an oddball though...

I like all the 'before' better Smiley Tongue  LOL

I liked a few of the Befores better, too. Some of the After pictures look overdone.

I feel like there's way too much going on here, for example:

The before is too plain and needs help, but WHAT is happening in the after? It's all over the place and just looks like a cluttered mess to me.

Re: Design makeovers: Before and after

I love looking at different designs and makeovers---thanks for posting it.

But the thing I have the problem with is with the light colors for chairs and sofas---for me it's not practical or you would have to use slipcovers on everything which I wouldn't care for either........

Re: Design makeovers: Before and after

I like some parts of some o the befores, some parts of some of the afters --and probably would never choose any room as a whole.  Most interesting to me is how changing the furnishings, the accessories, the colors, etc. makes for a totally different space.  That's the take-away for me, and right now that's really important becasue I need to re-do 2 rooms over the next few months and the re-do's will not involve moving walls or windows.  Paint, flooring, and furnishings only.  Thanks for all the pictures.

Re: Design makeovers: Before and after

I'm one who likes a cluttered look at home.  My living room is English cottage-style.

I'm the opposite in wearing clothes, however.  My outfits are pretty streamlined, for the most part.

Re: Design makeovers: Before and after

I didn't care for the dining room - like someone else said - just too much going on.  I did like the first living room makeover.   I miss watching Candace Olsen's Divine Design on HGTV - she was the best.
