More digging through closets, stored glassware, and other random things in drawers.
Still working on streamlining glassware, both stored in kitchen cabinets, and extras in boxes in my hall closet. Most were bought by me. Some from mom's home too. (donated plenty of her stuff, but took only what I loved and would use...but sorting through, I can let go of some now.)
- A set of little sipping, cordial glasses of mom's.
I have plenty of my own, so letting this
7 pc. "set" of hers go. They're pretty, but the least practical of all the ones I have & 7 yrs since I took them...never used them once.
- 3 stemless wine glasses...where did the 4th go? I don't recall breaking one??
Replaced by:
A box of 6, stored, in front closet, nicer looking ones I got years ago, then stored for "special occasions"...and have never used them! Time to use them! I put 4 in kitchen cabinets, I'll get rid of the box they came in & consolidate the last 2 where my extra glassware is. Things come in sets bigger than I use regularly, so extras are stored in that hall closet.
- A silverware stand for serving that came with a set of casual stainless flatware bought years ago...I thought I'd use the stand for "entertaining"...I think I used it once in about 17 yrs, and it's not even pretty!
- One Pilsner beer glass I kept from a trip to Europe 40 years ago! (I have a set of mug style, beer glasses I use.)
- a little trinket Limogges heart box~I have a couple different Limogges trinket boxes I'm keeping my mom's, this one I can donate.
-One bra, didn't like the fit of anymore.
That's it for Amy's decluttering adventures and this episode of "Am I a Hoarder?" for today! 😆

Well for the past two days, we have been going through lots of shelves and drawers in the garage. Found a bag of vintage glass door knobs. So pretty but cannot use these because the door cut outs for the doorknobs are too big. I have seen a fellow who makes planter containers and altho I did not know him, I decided to see if he would like them...HE DID. YEAH. That felt greyt
Anyhow, here is a "small "partial list of garage stuff for the garbage/donation/ or toxic dump: left over floor tiles, empty boxes cut down-into recycle bin, wood planks, putty knives, grout smoothers, cables, old rags, wood slats, grease in tiny jars, rolls of crepe papers in different colors, strong glue tubes that have solidified, rolls of heavy paper to protect the carpets when walls were painted, bug killers for plants...to the toxic dump place, rusty screws and nails, support wall pieces for TVs on walls, rusty garden tools...we no longer garden, cloth bags for super market items.
There were so many more things, but too tired to remember. Nightie to one and all.

love that you said good by to three wine glasses and used those "save for good" ones. I always save for "good." -- clothes, lilnens, kitchen towels, etc. I have got to use the stuff for me...not for donation!

Thank you @Twins Mom I am so happy about that swap out! The "special ones" feel so nice in my hand, delicate, more like a "wine glass" than an everyday glass. I said to myself, "special occasion?!...at this stage of life...every morning I get up and see the sunshine is a special occasion!" I'M the special occasion, enjoying the items I love most in my home everyday!
Doesn't mean we can't save some things meant for "fancy times" like clothing & even serving pieces...but you know what I mean. At the rate I was going with those glasses I'd never use them...and there was certainly NO need to have an everyday set in my cabinets AND a more delicate set in the closet. They never saw the light of day because I also use my long stem wine glasses for "special occasions!" YES...got longstem too. 🤦♀️ 🍷
....and on THIS addition of "Am I A Hoarder"...Amy lets go of excess stemless wine glasses, 7 cordial glasses, & 4 ea tea/dessert plates. Don't think I wasn't a bit wistful to let go of the pretty "cottage rose" tea set...but I NEVER use them & I have so many others I do use. My new consignment shop took them as donation for a charity event, not to consign, as even she can't seem to sell "vintage" type items.
I've tried to be practical, ruthless, (for me), this week, and keep my eye on the prize which is maybe finally getting some condo updates done, and having only what I can store and use. I still have so much, but I'm working on it! Everything is neat and behind cabinets & drawers, so my home doesn't "look" cluttered, but much is tucked away!

Well ladies, I said I "was in that mood" last week & the mood has lasted...I've been going through things all wk, pushing myself on old "stuck" "maybe" items, to let go!!
I continue to LOVE that new consignment shop I'm working with. Saw her again yesterday because I'd forgotten to bring a turq/silver bracelet with my first drop off and she said today just drop by with it. She is SO engaging, detailed, easy & open to work with...a doll. Bracelet was another item "denied" by the "snooty" shop; she loved it. She asked what I thought I'd paid for it, and where I bought it (QVC, maybe around $50) She did a quick search online to show me....we saw one listed as high as $249.00!! ...which we both agreed won't sell for that, and as low as $50. Some on Etsy. She said her customers will do these searches too, so she'll price it just below the "lowest one out there" or they won't buy it for more, if they see it priced for less online.
That's someone I love working with, transparent, and shares her process with my stuff!
She also called me this morning about the tea set I brought to her to donate to a charity sale, she didn't think would sell in her store. She said "I took them out of the box & thought, not sure how well they'll do but I'll give them a try!" She said she didn't want me coming in the store & wondering why my set was on the shelves when she'd said she was going to donate them.
Win/win. Hope she has luck with them...for her, as much as for me. It takes someone with a certain vintage, cottage rose taste, but it's a very pretty set. We'll see, I just appreciate her deciding to try them out & letting me know!
Libraary is having another of their seasonal book sales soon so I'm going through my stash again today. Set aside 3 for the sale & tossed one. Also set aside brand new old style kindle leather binder to donate in case ANYone can use it. Amazon is no longer going to be supporting my old version, so I'm going to have to upgrade soon anyway. So will everyone else, but figured I'll just put it in with my library donation anyway.
Going to start another post, as this will be another book otherwise!

Oh and another thing that made me feel good when I walked in her store yesterday...she had my boho spring green Dialogue blouse merchandised on a manniquin, right in the entrance, with a pretty colorful scarf draped around the neck, and a piece of burnished gold jewlerly...styled so pretty!
THAT was the blouse the snooty store turned their noses at, and said "you see that (invisible!) "dot"..."sorry, it's cute, but it's because of 'conditiion'"...it was mint condition. VINDICATION!
In fact, when I mentioned to the owner how nicely she merchandised it, a young woman checking out said...
"I was looking at that wishing I was an XS!" 😊

Tuesday I purged my husbands home office. I've had a hard time even thinking about it since his sudden death. I was so proud of myself for conquering that very sad chore. I still have his closet, bathroom, and shop. These will be purged in time. Someone recommended a garage sale but I am not fond of them. Having strangers rummaging through his things, well, no thank you. I wonder if I will ever stop missing him.

@Sheila Morelan, welcome...not sure if you are new here, but don't recall seeing you before. I'm so very sorry for your sudden loss. The job you just finished is harder than many of us are doing here...I'm sure it took a lot of emotional fortitude, but something must have motivated you to get it done rather than wait. I'm glad you did not do a tag sale and drag it on...I would feel the same way with sentimental items of a loved one, not wanting people rummaging through!
I wish you strength, support & eventually some peace, as you go through the stages of this.

@Sheila Morelan - no, you never will. I am so sorry for your loss.

- 8 books ready to be dropped off at library today...contemplating one other coffee table book a friend gave me yrs ago...it keeps making the cut, thinking I'm going to peruse it again & I haven't. It's also not one I keep out on my coffee table.
- One more random plate in donation bag. Also a Rubbermaid plastic sip bottle, never used.
- Tossed a nail polish that doesn't apply or dry well...nobody got time for that!
- Tossed a Mally eyeshadow stick; similar shades I like better and never use this one.
- Tossed several local take-out menus. I know I can & do get this info online...but I actually refer to a few, and they're in a decorative wire hanging rack in kitchen. A few other local business info things in there too.
🚩 Stumbling Block:
An Amish handmade rocker I've had for 25 yrs. Still love it when I sit in it...ergonomically shaped to fit the body comfortably. I move it from room to room. Been in my bedroom the most, but crowded in there & I never sit in it there. While much more comfortable than the faux wicker chair I replaced it with, in the bedroom, I like that look and smaller size better in there.
Have it out in the living room as a spare side chair right now. Trouble is, while my home is an eclectic mix of somewhat modern cottage & some old timey/romantic...this chair is REALLY rustic, like it belongs in a cabin in the hills of Tennessee. No disrespect, I love Tennessee! But I think it's aging my room. More "grandma's attic" than I'm going for these days.
I've had a "hate to part with it" relationship with this for a few years. I found a place that will take it for donation, said to bring it anytime. Then I put it in the living room. Ugh!! I have such decision fatigue on this!! If I had a sunroom, or covered porch, (I'm in a 1100 sq foot condo, folks), I'd keep it. I don't want to put it in storage for "someday maybe."
Aesthetic-wise, I think it needs to go. But, I better not keep sitting in it....I relax the moment I'm in it~ wish I had that covered porch!
