Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

Just a small drop off on Friday...some clothes and a box of kitchen unused items all brand new!  I have decided to toss most items UNLESS they are in great condition only from now on.  I was holding things for to long as some were not seasonally appropriate to donate and they don't want heavy sweaters in spring/summer.

Watched a video by a lady named Dawn minimalist Mom I think she goes by...and I had to agree with her that sometimes you just gotta toss it!

@tsavorite - I watch videos by Dawn the Minimal Mom too. As a general rule I like her videos. I believe she said she origininally got turned onto minimalism by Joshua Becker. Another one I like to watch is Dana K White, author of A Slob Comes Clean.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

I'm still working on my slow file cabinet purge/organization. I have one file cabinet done now and one to go. Then hubby has one to go thru. I dumped the shredder twice on Saturday.

I also went thru my 2 bins of "extra" clothes again and switched out a few more things from my closet as I've lost a bit more weight and am now fitting into the smallest sizes that I kept. I set aside to donate one top and 6 bottoms.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

I am tired of working to purge basement so I moved upstairs for a change of scenery - guest bedroom.  Pulled a few linens which I inherited and do not need.  Two bags - toss for fabric recycle or donate bag.  Several of those air space bags were delved into.  Many, many t-shirts were removed and put in donate bags.  A few children's items were also selected to not save but donate.  Extra sweatshirts that have not been used in a few years pulled.  Yeh!  DD contributed to the bags and pitched three pairs of old shoes.

As a group I think we’re all doing great!  There’s some interesting things being decluttered.

amyb, I was visiting Jackson Hole, so what I remember are a lot of upscale houses and that they could afford to have the heating tubes under their driveway to melt the snow.  Also a lot of antler decorations because the elks drop them.

wagirl, that’s great your building takes your recycling.  That sounds so handy.

Lynnie, getting rid of all the old OTC products is a good idea so you know what you have.  I went through mine and also tossed those out-of-date covid tests.  Bath and Body Works used to get me on their 3-wick candle sale.  I had to get rid of so many when I decided not  to burn them anymore.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

I have a hanging organizer for gift wrap, bows, ribbons, etc.  I went through that and donated some things I think a crafter, or teacher could use.  Besides that I had three other containers with that kind of stuff and have narrowed it down quite a bit.  I’m a simple gift wrapper now.  A name tag and bow with some tissue paper inside a gift bag.  Done!  I don’t need all the extras anymore.

A Snowman Kit with all the pieces.  When I moved to a snowy area, cartoons and movies misled me into thinking it was this fluffy, fun stuff to play in. But no!

I’ll put it with the Christmas donations I’m saving for September/October when they start taking those things.  I’ll have to ask if this thrift shop has caught onto Christmas in July?

I had a three-drawer chest with things tucked away that I haven’t seen in years.  Tossed out panty hose, knee-highs, tights that sort of thing.  I also found lots of hair ornaments such as barrettes, combs, clips, head bands, and some more exotic things.  I kept a few but decluttered most.

But now what about those drawers? I’m still deciding.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

@taquito - I think we are all doing great too!

Hubby actually sold a couple of things to his co-workers this past week. A noodle/pasta maker that we bought brand new from a garage sale and never used and a toy organizer that we had used when the kiddos were little.

We haven't sold anything in ages, everything just gets donated, so it feels really good to get rid of a couple of things and get a couple dollars back too!

Tossed/recycled recent mailer bags & boxes from deliveries.

Tossed old meds & prescription info that come with them, I keep in a bathroom vanity drawer, until I'm done with the meds; they had accumulated. Also tossed some old toiletries while in there.

Shredded old taxes, as I filed my current return, and papers, junk mail, on my desk. (that never ends! Though I'm good when I bring in the mail to toss many things right away...if junk mail makes it to my desk, it's something I might use or want to look over.) Emptied shredder.

The other day it was my car that was bugging me...got it washed, then took it home and wiped down interior, vacumed, cleaned it out. Tossed odds & ends in the car & trunk, including, 2 baseball & 1 fisherman's type, cotton hat. I left two other bb caps I like the best, for the just in case, on-the-go, random hat need. I keep the rest of my bb caps at home.

It was a preliminary trunk go-through, tossed the easiest, most obvious things, and organized what's in there. When I get ready to put summer beach stuff back there, I'll make sure of anything else to go.

That's it for now. Nothing big, but feeling in the mood for everything to go! Ha. Given my mood vs. what I've actually tossed, so far...there IS a huge gap there....but I'm still working at it!! Also been cleaning along the way, so that takes up some of my energy, not all spent decluttering but cleaning up too.

I recently redid my kitchen, so everything had to be pulled out of the cabinets and pantry.  Whew mama - what a bunch of c r a p.   I tossed the really dirty stuff, but went to Goodwill several times with duplicates of things and things I will never use again.  I had 2 crookpots - 2!  I gave one to Goodwill.  I also gave away a perfectly good dehumidifier that I no longer need - my "basement" is the first floor of the house and isn't underground.  If something leaks, I will deal with it then.  It is such a great feeling to toss trash and donate viable items.  Very freeing feeing.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

I gave a friend of mine a dog toy and some flea medicine that I can't use that she can hopefully use for her dogs.
