Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

Hubby and I went to the thrift store on Saturday. I was hoping to find some smaller size pants to wear but other than a pair of sleep pants I couldn't find anything. I did find 4 shirts but I will need to keep looking for pants. I don't really love shopping so it's a chore to make myself go.

As long as we were going I did get my few donations dropped off. I added a dog coat to the bag before we took them.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

@lynnie61 Lol...I've only ever gotten 2 of the casino's gifts..that suitcase I got about 3 uses of. And an InstaPot...I kept in my upstairs storage closet for one year...never used it, then donated it. I just only have so much practical space for kitchen small appliances and already have a slow cooker I hardly ever use, but can see myself using more than an InstaPot, so I made the choice which to keep. I wanted to go get the casino gift Instapot, to see if I was interested in trying one out, because if not, I knew I'd never buy one. Finally figured...I never need to boil a dozen eggs in a nano second, or make a soup in less than the 30 minutes it normally takes me to make most of my soups on the stove. I don't cook big roasts and things I need to rush either. We also have an air fryer we do pork roasts in. So yea, in one year I never had an interest in even trying it out once...so I let it go.

We get all kinds of other perks as well, the Free Play, which I use and win with...using only their money! That's as far as gambling goes with me. And free nights at the hotel, restaurant, gas perks etc. There's several great restaurants up there, so we enjoy that and use those perks.

So nice to open my linen closet and find it completely organized!

Finally let go of 3 pairs of pants -- get this! that I never wore! Can't now anyway, since they were all too big. Also a top, since it was not a flattering color.

I wonder what I would pitch if I ever got serious about my office! I've got these books....

Anyone have idea what to do with empty plastic CD/DVD cases?  I have a grocery sack full of them and before I tote to resale shop, I thought I would ask.  Pitching seems a sin, but maybe that's all I can do.

@Twins Mom - I would probably just pitch them.. CD's and DVD's seem to be rarely used anymore, I don't know how much I would fuss with empty cases.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

I tossed the sleep pants that I just bought. I washed them yesterday and when I went to put them away I noticed 2 big holes in them. I didn't notice it when I bought them and I usually try to look pretty closely because there's no returns so I don't know if I missed it or if it happened in the washer or dryer. So that was a waste Smiley Sad Bummer.

I tossed a couple of fabric scraps that I had been keeping in case we wanted to patch a pair of jeans. I bought some iron on patches to keep on hand for that.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

Well ladies....went to that new consignment shop today...couldn't have been more pleased.

The owner was a doll. Her shop is cute, lots of great categories of things in there, set up nicely. I like her system of doing things. She explained it all. So friendly. She loved my items...you know....those ones that all got rejected from that "picky place!!"  I'll never consign there again!

She took all seven items I brought in and complimented how pristine and nice they were.

She loved my Dialogue swing jacket...said too bad, there was a young woman in the other day, about to go to Italy, she thought would have looked great on her. So, she had that kind of attention to detail, and knowing her customers, what they might like.

Complimented my purse I had with me today..."Is that Patricia Nash?", yup, and showed me a PN purse she had for sale. It was just an all-around great experience.

I wasted so much time with that frustrating shop, I should have searched for other places before now, but she'll be my new consignment shop to consign and shop in.

I told her of some things, like my $350, like new, eel skin cowboy boots that got turned down because they were size 5 1/2 (I'm a 6 1/2, but back when I bought them "they" were saying for Justin boots to go down a size...over time they got too tight for me, and I know now how to properly size a cowboy boot.)

Anyway, a different "snooty" consignment shop turned them down "I'll never be able to sell that size." This lady was sorry I didn't still have them, she wanted them.

So we'll see if my things sell, but either way, very pleased with finding this shop. She'd have taken so many things that got turned down before...all nice things in beautiful shape, just that that other store really is insane the way they do business. This woman you could tell was more engaging and involved in the shop and knew what she was doing.

I did forget a bracelet I was going to bring in...but I made another appt. for July, (because she books a few months out too) in case I have any summer items to bring, otherwise I'll just bring the bracelet then. I'm sure if I called her she'd let me just drop it off now too.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

I’m noticing that once I got started it feels easier to let go of more things.  I was weighing myself down with stuff I don’t need any more.  It’s not as sad as I thought to let go of the past, it’s freeing!

Overall, it feels good to get better organized.  But while I’m in the process, I have a couple of rooms that look like an explosion took place!  😊

Last week DH and I loaded up what I had in my donation pile and got it all to my local donation place.  Now I’m starting new bags and boxes.

Donating:

6 more pairs of crop pants

1 pair linen pants with tags.  Linen, why so scratchy?

1 pair dress slacks

22 belts

3 clutch purses

1 Winter hat

7 pairs of shoes

5 pairs of tall boots

1 pair of authentic cowgirl boots – I wore them only twice.  Once at Sundance, and once in Wyoming.

Thrown out: 2 pairs shoes, 1 pair of booties, 1 pair of sandals, 2 belts

@taquito 👏

If they were 61/2 I might have been interested in those "authentic cowgirl boots!" That consignment shop, yesterday, had a pretty pair, sort of rustic red with studs that caught my eye, but were size 8!

I have two pair myself, one from a Texas trip & one other from a western shop I used to work in, and they're enough, but I still love me some cowboy boots.

I would love a pair of Lucchese, that I never got at the shop when I was there...every now and then I poke around for a vintage pair, 2nd hand.

Anhow I digress...

ps. Never been to Wyoming but always been on my bucket list, kind of in the back of my mind. If you feel like sharing your impressions of it, love to hear it.

@amyb - That is so nice that you found a nice, new consignment shop to do business with. I wouldn't have stuck it out with the other one for as long as you did.
