Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

Pulled yarns from various places, keeping a few that I would love to have knitted for our use.  The remainder I bagged and will donate to a group that crochets items for other's comfort needs.  Storing so many was a task and I need to pass on to those who can use.  Fabric and a few sewing items bagged for church quilting group.  Both need to be delivered next week...

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

I am impressed too, everyone is doing so well! I feel like I started out well this year but I have been struggling to find motivation lately. I know it is partly the cold, I don't want to spend any time in my basement or mudroom or garage.

It's partly my kids, both of my boys' rooms need decluttering, the one who lives here needs to declutter his room and the one who moved out still has things in his closet I want him to go thru and decide if he wants to keep or get rid of.

I've been thru most of the other rooms for big items. Some of the things I want to go thru are tedious and time consuming like pictures, papers, file cabinet. Or they are things I am saving for my second son if he wants them when he moves out. Or they are my husband's items.

I have a bunch of reasons for NOT doing anything don't I? I have a couple of days off next week, I will try to do SOMETHING. Now just to figure out what that will be.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

Haven't been doing much purging recently.  Not been feeling well or motivated.  Next month will start looking at seasonal switch of my closets and hopefully find items I am tired off.

My buying diet made it thru January and so far in February.  January purchase was only 1 pair of shoes and February is going well with only 1 pair of pants.  I have been really downsizing the last couple years by purging  but still did way too much replacing.  Hope to do good this year and my mind is set in the right place as yesterday being Free Ship day I had 4 items in my wish list waiting for free ship and after deliberating all day, instead of purchasing them, I deleted them.  Big win for me!

Purged:  Shoes - 1    Tops - 3     Pants - 1  Jackets - 2

               Sweaters - 2       Decor - 2     Shoe Boxes - 6

               Shipping Bags - 10     Misc Office Supplies - 16

               Meds/Cremes/Foods  -  14

@KathyM23 - That is a big win, good job!

I have been trying not to spend unnecessarily so far this year too. I did order some supplements a few days ago because hubby opened our last bottle and it looks like our toaster oven is giving out so I will have to replace that. I have a couple other things to get also from Walmart that I've been waiting on but I will probably get if we're out. I am REALLY working on trying to use up what we have as much as possible.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

I was off yesterday and forced myself to work on paperwork for a bit. I got all of the current pile filed away and did shred a few things and I emptied the shredder.

I really want to go thru every single folder and make sure everything is order. That will be something I putter on over the next several months, just double checking one at a time.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

RetRN, all those extra pretty dishes and serving pieces take up a lot of room, especially if we’re not using them anymore.  I’ve let go of some a few years ago, but you’ve inspired me to make a second sweep of those things.

Magicmoodz, you almost made this night owl fall out of her chair when you said you didn’t get up until 5:45 a.m.  That’s so early!

KathyM23, I hope you feel better soon.  For not being motivated you’ve purged a lot!  New clothes are so tempting that deleting instead of purchasing is impressive.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

I’ve made some clothing progress!  I started out with something easy.  Over the years, whenever we went places, some concerts, I’d get tee tops with a logo and name of the place.  I went through sweatshirts like this a while back.  Now I found 37 tees to donate.  Crewneck is the least flattering on me, which made it easier.  Two tossed that I must have worn when painting.   I kept any made of soft material for the garden and chore type activities.

But I freed up two drawers in a big dresser and lightened up the other drawers so they’re not all crammed in there!

My goal is to give the clothes I do wear some breathing room.

Also decluttered a Susan Graver maxi dress.  So heavy and brown is not my color.

Five more tops that are a little too cutesy for my tastes now.

Five tank tops.  Two belts.  One bodysuit. Six pairs of shorts.  Two pairs of bulky cabin socks that take up so much drawer space.

Donating an extra purse organizer.

Then I went through things I forgot were on the top shelf in the coat closet.  I found two baskets full of cleaning products.  I don’t even keep them there anymore.  One item had a use by date of 2013 which means I’ve had it for a few years before that.  I figured they were all that old, so out they went.

My first vacuum at this house was a Hoover.  I found vacuum bags and belts, still unopened.  Donating for the vacuum collectors out there.  Ya never know if someone wants them.

Full discloser:  President’s Day with no shipping – I bought more lock & locks.  One of my weaknesses, and some more clothes.  But that means I have to keep on decluttering older clothes.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

Part of decluttering for me has to do with not making impulsive purchases. I made my first QVC purchase a few days ago on food, and I used a 25% off coupon code. Then, a QVC poster provided me with the name of a company that makes custom table pads. I placed that order and am awaiting its arrival.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

[ Edited ]

I decluttered the hutch in our dining room. I mainly found some papers to toss but I did set aside 2 pair of cheap ear buds to donate along with a few greeting cards.

I cleaned my mudroom and found one glove to toss. Tossed a pair of undies.

My son came over and I got him to go thru the rest of the things in his closet. He tossed a couple of things, set aside a couple things to donate and took a tote full of things home.

He also took 2 of my extra pans and some food and household items that I have extra of.

We set aside a board game for hubby to take to work.

Now I need to finish organizing that room.
