Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

Oh and I forgot, I tossed 2 old planners yesterday, 2023 and 2024. I usually just keep the previous year so I can look up when a previous appt was if need be.

I also caught up my filing yesterday and did a bit of shredding and dumped my shredder.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

I have given myself a 31 day challenge this month.

Each day I need to at least put one item in the trash or donation box or give to someone I know who would like.  Can be big or small.  So far so good.

Decorative plate in donation box, old pictures to my brother and tossed and shredded a bunch of old mail.  Working on today.  I believe it will be bath and body items I do not use or have not used and my grand daughter is into all that stuff.

I usually end up sorting and organizing more.  I try and challenge myself to do something extra around the house each week at least.

In putting away wrapping paper, tissues, etc. I reorganized the boxes holding them, pitching the oversized boxes that were difficult to get to.  I pitched some ribbons, tissues, and boxes without mates.  Hadn't thought about it, but I have some boxes for stores that are long gone.  Glad I have them - did not hardly use any gift bags.  More fun for kids to open, IMO.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

During the last couple of months I have been searching for my tablet, which is what I usually used to sign in to this site.  Gosh I miss it.  Wonder if I "purged" it in the Christmas rush.  Hope not!  Anyway, it's been awhile since I have joined in - miss reading daily.

I have gone through an "art supply" box and will donate some embroidery sets that I will not get to.  Found 4 tote bags that I never decorated but will donate when they collect for school supplies - put with backpacks.  In putting away Christmas dishes I did manage to pull a chip/dip set that I have rarely used - donate pile.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

I am determined this year that I am going to follow the minimalistric consumerism that @magicmoodz mentioned in the declutter 2025 purge.  I have way too much stuff and as I age I am going out less and less and still buying things that I liked when I drssed for work.

Realistically I could not buy anymore clothes and still not run out of things to wear.  Can't fool myself into saying I will stop shopping but will sure cut way down.  In December I only bought one sweater as it was a perfect match for a favorite pair of pants I have.  See if I can get thru January with no purchases.  March will be hard as there will be new stuff for spring.

Since my last post in 2025 purge I have pursed the following.

     Purses - 12  Pants - 22    Sweaters -3    Tops - 4

     scarves - 4    Robe - 1    Bracelet - 1   Decor - 4

Grill Rack  and 2 bags of shredding.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

[ Edited ]

Hi all..

I haven't gotten into any new significant decluttering. Mostly getting back in the groove, catching up on all the accumulated extra stuff from holidays...putting away of wrapping paper box, getting to piled up desk, mail...stuff where usual routines always fall back (all but the immediate stuff that needs tending to, like bills) during busy holidays.

Freshening up the bed linens blah blah blah...more straigtening up, cleaning, errands, paperwork.

My home still has boxes upstairs where Christmas tree stuff will get packed up, but I always leave trees up until at least little Christmas, Jan. 6, tomorrow, and usually beyond that...maybe mid Jan. Which for me is great...I used to keep it up all Jan, and sometimes do the Valentine tree. No more.

I may just keep up my little pencil tabletop near the fireplace, minus the Christmas ornaments. It'll just be pinecones, berries and lights & becomes a seasonal winter tree. Here in CT that fits the season. I can see other parts of the country it wouldn't.

I'll finish taking down all the other little Christmas decor items this week. I won't be able to put ALL the decor boxes back in outdoor storage until tree comes down/ornaments go in some of those boxes too. It's a process. Boxes are upstairs, office, out of the way of main living space. Other than two trees, all the rest of "Christmas" is gone or will be after today.

I also have a pre-lit white birch tree, I didn't put up last year, but may again this year...it goes in the dining room window where my Christmas tree is, with just one cardinal ornament on it, and looks pretty that way all winter. Then I could put hearts on that V day, then it goes all the way to Easter where I have eggs for it.

Anyhoo...that's my "seasonal decor swap, agenda."

As for ANY decluttering...I have tossed all excess mailers, delivery bags. Also old catalogs.

I have been going through unopened mail, tossing and shredding junk, but have more to do that are action items. Little by little. Emptied the shredder the other day and tossed, and my recycles.

Have gone through my freezer & tossed anything too old. No real food waste, which was good...just those frozen leftover produce/fruit for smoothies that didn't get used. Also cleaned out my fridge of any pantry items that've been in there too long.

That's it for now! Wow that was more ramble than I thought I'd do, but that's usual for me, let's be real. Smiley Wink

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

I also have been working on more digital declutter, emails, files, pictures...that really HAS been little by little...so time consuming. Just basically trying to keep somewhat up to date! Got off some mailing lists. Stuff like that...as soon as 100 things go out about 50 more come in! But such is "the way of our world" now.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

And now----for the continuing saga of-----the old lady moving to a new apartment--part----50!!!🤪

OH-- MY-- GOSH!!!!   I am so ready for this little adventure to be over!!! I think I have the garage stuff all ready for the move to the new storage unit and some going to new apartment. Have had my SIL and DS help transport alot of the easy stuff that doesn't need to be boxed up--Will call today to set up the movers for that area then will get them back at the end of the month for the apartment stuff. Have gotten rid of alot too--- and donated as much. But I over did the lifting and carrying heavy stuff and now my stupid left arm has cellulitis--- am on anti-b's for that. It does that if I am doing my impression of Super Woman-🫤----had lymph nodes removed because of cancer so not a new or weird event. But it hurts and is cramping my style--poor me-----

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

I am pleased to have come across this thread.

I have been in my home for 22 years and have accumulated way too many items over that time.  I recently replaced my carpet in my bedrooms and closets, so all of those items had to be moved to my living room and a bonus room.

I had a number of clothes and other items.  I refuse to put all these items back in the rooms unless they are really needed. Therefore, I have been purging. Over the last three weekends, my trash bin has been stuffed with items to discard, and I will keep doing this until the unnecessary ones are purged.

Last Monday, I came into the office with six pairs of brand new shoes that I had never worn and quite frankly forgot that I had. Four of the boxes I gave to a co-worker. The other two have been tossed.

Tonight, when I get home. I will toss more items until the bin is full again, then wait to start over after trash day.
