Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

Happy New Year everyone!

Welcome to our new Declutter 20206 thread!

To those of you who are new, this is where we all work together to purge the unnecessary, unwanted and unloved items from our homes and lives. Here we can share our progress and also our setbacks and struggles, in order to encourage, motivate and inspire others.

The purging can be a physical item but it also can be anything that is weighing us down and keeping us from living our best lives, including digital clutter, unwanted time obligations or things we feel we "have to do", or even toxic people.

The physical items that leave can be as small as a scrap of paper or as large as a car. It all has to be handled and dealt with and it all counts when it leaves our homes. Big purges, small purges, whole house purges or one drawer purges, it all counts! One item out is one less item we have to deal with!

There are no rules, we do whatever works for each individual person.

We have the best group of ladies on this thread and I hope that everyone will join us.

Here's to a better and lighter and more peaceful 2026!

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

Happy New Year to all reading and posting here!

I had made a lot of progress in 2024, but had a few curve balls thrown into my life in 2025 and did not get much done.  Praying for a better year in 2026, and I have a few more purging goals.

One goal is to get everything that belongs to someone else out of my house.  I am giving my eldest daughter some leeway as she is dealing with a few curve balls thrown into her life too, but I still have a container of family photos from my Dad's house.  I saved them after he passed but I cannot get my siblings to come over to see them and divide them up.  So.......I am going to go through them, divide them up as I see fit and deliver them to each of them.  Then that container will be gone!

I also have way too many clothes!  They are all hung neatly in three large closets but it is ridiculous to have so many garments and I do not want to burden my girls with all of that.  So I will slowly, but surely, try to get rid of some!  Will be tedious but I must work on it.

I will also try to post on this thread more often, to held myself accountable.  I do enjoy reading here and it helps to read of others' accomplishments!

New Year, New Bee! – Hilltop Honey

Just remember that it's better to declutter when you still have a choice in the matter.

Don't wait for it to happen at a time when you don't have as many options.

Re: Declutter 2026: What Have You Purged Today?

Recently I was reminded of the clothes purging trick of putting all your hangers in one direction and as you use clothes and put them back, switch the hanger around.  At the end of the year see what you've worn and what you haven't.  So I decided to do that.  Yesterday got my clothes arranged and hangers all going in one direction.  A year from now, I'll see how I've done.  While arranging my clothes yesterday, I did go through some sweaters on the shelves and put a couple in the donate pile that were too big.  Should have sent them back when I got them but thought "oh I'll wear them anyway."  Never did.  Another lesson - if it doesn't fit correctly for whatever reason, send it back!

@rnmom

Happy New Year!

Will be cleaning out my home office to start, then on to the cabinets - linen closet, pantry in kitchen, coat closet.

The big one - the master closet really needs it also!

Had cataract surgery in both eyes in November & December and I am enjoying organizing more.

Wasn't fun with fuzzy vision, this is the best incentive! Smiley Happy
