Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

Uh oh, I am reverse decluttering. I have lost a couple of pounds and some of my clothes were getting a big loose so I went downstairs to find some clothes in the next size down. I have one tote with tops and one with bottems and I brought out a few of each and will put the bigger items downstairs just in case I gain weight and need them again.

I had a bag set aside to donate and I decided to keep the capri pants that were in there and I took a top out of there to keep for now. Now I'm kicking myself because I donated a bunch of stuff from my closet that had been a bit too small and I was tired of looking at it. Now it would probably fit. Figures. Maybe I'll check out the thrift stores. I don't need anything and I rarely ever shop and when I do it's usually second hand. I wouldn't mind a few new to me things.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

Hello peeps...I'm just getting over a cold/bug...and because I'm feeling better, finally, I went out today to get some groceries. Before that did a fridge/freezer purge, garbage & recycles...so I could refresh "sick home" back to normal!

Had several opened-too-long in the fridge half or 1/3 left containers/jars of sauces, yogurt, some veggies etc...taking up valuable space. Out.

In the freezer got rid of most of all my "saved for smoothies" fruits that had ice crystaled over since storing them some time ago. Plus, I buy frozen fruit for smoothies anyway, much fresher. Of all the fruits I freeze (I'll freeze them if they are past being edible fresh, a tad soft, but still fine for smoothies)...of all the ones I save I do use some, but wind up tossing about 2/3, months later. Probably not worth it to save the amount I save, but what happens is, I'll see something going soft, and I just toss it to my freezer bag. Months later I realize they've over accumulated!

I go through phases making smoothies, and since I need to replenish & find a good new protein powder, haven't been making them lately.

Also went through mail on my desk, opened and tossed all junk mail and opened evelopes to add to garbage.

That's all for today. I know it's just normal home maintenance again, more than major purging, but posting it anyway.

Happy Halloween & weekend! 🎃 👻 🕸️ 🕷️

@rnmom Don't beat yourself up...it's not really "reverse decluttering" as much as it's just always a balancing act to purge, replenish, update, and balance what we currently need with what we can let go of. I think we just have to psychologically accept and figure in at least some margin of "error" each year. Our changing needs and decision making in the moment, will always be hard to predict 100%.

At least, with this thread, we're all working to be congnizant, and conscious of it throughout the year, each year. Otherwise, we probably would all be all over the place with having too much, not knowing what we had etc.

Congrats though...on being a size smaller. I hope you find some new, fun, smaller thrift items.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

I went thru the mudroom closet and tossed an old pair of crocs that I didn't wear all summer and the detachable hood from a coat that we no longer own.

We gave our son a jacket that belonged to him. We are giving one of hubby's co-workers a pair of insulated canvas bibs and we are donating a canvas coat.

It's a big closet and it's not full but this just gives us a little more breathing room. We don't need that may.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

During my "Seasonal Closet Switchover," I bagged up a few items that I didn't wear all summer that I will donate.

Also, tossed some freezer-burned fruit that I was saving to make Smoothies as well. Smiley Wink

Decided to go through my sock box....threw out 3 old, pilly, stretched out pairs. I need to toss a few more, as soon as I can replace, freshen up with some staples...some of my neutral wool pairs for winter that are very old...need new black pairs. Still tossed more than I will replace.

Tossed two citronella candles from this summer's deck. (Already have a new set in storage for next summer)

My summer flowers, window boxes and pots, looked lush and beautiful all through October...but now not only did a few frosts get what was left, but the rain/wind storm we got last week actually blew my window box off the railing (it's wedged in a groove not sitting on top and still blew off...I think maybe it had gotten top heavy enough for the wind to take it!) It blew it across the lot, and I happened to see it out my bedroom window. The flowers in it still looked good, but I always toss everything once November/frost comes; they'd have been short-lived by now. So, out all the summer plantings went, and window boxes and pots up in outdoor storage.

Not sure that is decluttering related...or just normal seasonal cleanup.

Also tossed an old small exercise ball, where the outside hard rubber was crackling and chipping off. I have a better one I still use.

That's all for now.

We took down our Halloween decorations before heading out for a short trip. I threw out a three foot witch I've used for many years, and two sets of orange mini lights.

I'm receiving catalogs 2-3x a week, and making a point to toss them right away.  They were one of my problem areas in the past.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

I am still working on my seasonal change.  Physical issues making it take much longer this year.  I have purged so much over the last several years but somehow I still have way too much mainly in the clothing category.

In the last month in addition to those mentioned in my last post, I have purged the following;

Jackets - 8   Sweaters -18   Pants - 10  Vests - 5  Tops - 5   Decor - 1

I have surprised myself in the jackets and sweaters cateories in how many I wanted to purge.  Trying items on instead of just glancing over them really does make a difference.

I had put myself on a purchasing diet but I saw the mantra that @magicmoodz posted about "minimalistic consumerism" and I am going to adopt that attitude as I really need to make the effort to practice mindful purchasing.

I have several items in my mind of items needing purged but I just need to time and energy to get working on it again.
