@amyb Eight years and several hundred dollars to clear up that infection! I might think twice about pedicures at the salon. My infection was by the nail of my second toe--swollen and inflamed that just would not heal for several months.
We were at my sister's a few nights ago. After dinner we were sitting barefoot in a tight circle commenting on who had the prettiest feet (we are easily amused😀). I was crushed that I didn't get one vote. Haha! (In full discosure, I happen to have bigger feet than they do!)
My ego was healed when I was at the coop picking up a few groceries this week. The cashier in my lane was a young man probably in his mid-2Os who when handing me my receipt he said "I like your nails". Other than my husband, I don't think a man has ever complimented me on my nails. It made me aware of how observant people can be when we are out and about. I know I am. I LOVE people-watching.

I didn't wear nail polish because of my work and so I always noticed manicures on other people.
Some women are meticulous about their extravagant nails, yet seem to bypass other grooming. I never quite understood that.

Well NOTHING makes us purge faster than having the closet pole break.
SO my husband spent yesterday afternoon purging 3/4 of the clothing he had hanging in the closet. He had purged alot of his "work clothes" when he retired about 5 years ago. I have no idea what he purged at that time. I was still working.
Yesterday, I didn't count but he got rid of no less than 15 dress suits and 10 sports jackets and I bet 50+ dress shirts.
He put everything in a LARGE heavy duty trash bag. It was filled up over 3 feet. He is dropping off the donations right now.
Can't believe the pole was able to hold the weight as long as it did.
So sometimes things are thrust upon you and you finally get the job done.
PS - WELL, we had to empty out everything in the closet. And a BAD habit of mine is now out in the open.
When I worked, I would leave the house at 7:00 AM and get home at 6:30 PM. And I also had another part time job for 7 years and then I would get home at 1:00 AM .
So if I got a package (that was frequently) I would put the box in the far end of the closet and I would look at it later. Well, too often it was not looked at and forgotten.
So I am now opening the packages. Found a brand new Clarisonic and lots of makeup kits, hair kits, skin care kits. Just about every brand. Even a pair of Rockport shoes and numerous purses. I can't believe what a waste.
Too bad today was trash day. The trash can is filling up.

@drizzellla - That's nice that you are getting your closet cleaned out, too bad about the unopened packages though. At least now you are aware going forward.

I finished a book and set it aside to donate. Set aside one skirt to donate.

Boxes, boxes, and more cardboard boxes!

My dryer needed a part, so after repairman left, I opened up the Christmas boxes. We will be eliminating our second artificial tree, because we are no longer going to decorate the rec room in the lower level. Nothing got thrown out yet, but once I have more time, I'll start eliminating ornaments and decorations.

@rnmom wrote:@aprilskies - How nice to hear from you again! Are you all settled into your new place now? I can imagine wanting a refresh and new things, it's always nice to get new things for a new place.
I know that when we downsize in a few years I'm not going to want to take a lot of stuff with us if we don't have to because we've been using it for years, some of it is pretty worn and I will want new stuff for our new place. Especially furniture items. Plus then I won't have to move it!
I know that you are busy but if you get time, pop in and let us know how you are doing!
@rnmom, Hi there. Thank you for remembering about my new place. Believe it or not, I am still trying to settle in a routine, However, the decluttering that took place was immensely satisfying. Anything and everything from heavy furniture to clothes to odds and ends. However, I would argue it could of been so much more. But, I have time and I am not going to overwhelm myself because when I start to filter through my stuff, I get instantly overwhelmed.
Having said that, I am getting tired of feeling overwhelmed and cluttered so this weekend I have started slowly going through containers and trying to be brutal. When I see things, I figure I could use it for something but then I would not of known I had it to begin with. So have a trash bag ready to go out. While I donate most of it, I am also giving myself permission to throw the little things out. I also no longer have a donation center close by so it drives this a bit more, I need things to leave quickly so I dont pull it back in.
But, I am ready to simplify further. There really is something to be said about living simply. I am sure my feelings are now brought on my age but, you know, I am there.
So I am beginning to go through again in a real way. I hope to join you all again in this decluttering journey.
I hope you and your family are well. I see one of your sons moved out. How does it feel?

@aprilskies - We are well, thanks for asking. My older son did move out, sooner than expected. I didn't think he'd leave until he was done with college. It's nice not having to clean up after him, but I miss him. I don't talk to him or see him a lot. I know he's busy but he's close so I just thought I'd see him more.
I hope that you keep us updated as to how you are doing, it's nice hearing from you ![]()

I just tossed a dishrag, a cleaning rag and a hanger. Everything counts right?
