Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

I set aside to donate 2 tops and some purple Christmas ornaments. I don't have any desire to put purple on my tree again and I don't think either of my boys would want them either.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

I think I'm going to try something in January that I've never attempted before. I think I'm going to try to do a "no buy January". Well, a no buy for "wants" in January. Has anyone done a no buy before?

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

 I also like to be able to look at the whole month and see what's going on.

Ditto!

I buy 2 Wall Calendars (from Dollar Tree as well) and hang one on the back of my Closet Door, and I hang the other one in DH's man cave for his reference.

@gidgetgh   Last year I made it to late February for no buy with wants.  I'm going to try it again.  I did buy a few things in the past week, so......I think that I was kind of cheating.  We shall see.  My goal is to make it to March 1.

Thank you for starting this thread to help motivate us to do a better job living a clean and organized life. I am always inspired reading everyone's comments.

And thank you for committing to a new thread in 2026. I do have one big project that I intend to focus on in the new year and that is our storage room. It is located in our parking garage. I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I am kind of scared which is so silly, because our garage is secured and lit up like Times Square. I just think I have watched too many Lifetime movies where gruesome things often happen in a parking garage.😱 Wish me luck!

I hope everyone has a Happy New Year! If you have any 2026 projects, please share!

@magicmoodz - You are so welcome! It is my pleasure to start the new thread also, I love coming here and reading about everyone's progress!

Do you have anyone that can go with you as you work on your storage area in the parking garage so that you are not alone?

@rnmom

I am sure my husband would be willing to keep me company, but I think my belongings in storage are sentimental and would require some serious decision-making on whether or not to keep. Although we have now lived here for 9 years and I have lived happily without.😀

I have everything packed neatly in bankers boxes labeled with the contents. This might be asking too much but I would like him to bring my boxes up to our condo so I can go through them at my own pace. We shall see.

There is no real hurry. We can't find a place we would choose to buy/rent and the way things are in my state we have even talked about relocating to another state. It makes me so sad because there was a time when I was so proud of my city. Have you and your husband made any forward movement in deciding where you might go?

@amyb

I am so happy to read that you had a great holiday with family and friends. I hoped that you had not come down with an influenza bug which seems to be rampant in our area.

We have one more family holiday dinner on Friday, but ii is a dinner out, so easy peasy. Whew!

Happy New Year!!!!!

My decluttering has been sporadic but I am hoping I will be more focused in the new year.  I would like to reduce as much as possible.  Too much stuff I don’t use.

I have tried no buys and have not been successful.  However, in the new year, my focus will just be on buying needs.  I am hoping to stop the compulsiveness.  I am too all over the place.

@gidgetgh - I have never specifically done a "no buy" before. I've found it tough in past years because of all of the after Christmas deals. I did try a half hearted attempt at a "pantry challenge" last year, where I try to work on eating up some of the items in my pantry and only buy necessarily perishables, fruit, veggies, dairy. I am going to try that again this year to work on using up some of my back stock. I just need to stay away from the weekly ads because I get sucked in when I see the "good deals and sales".

@magicmoodz - No, we really haven't. The problem is that we don't travel so we really don't have any idea as to what is out there. I just know that I want to go somewhere a bit warmer but that is a lot of the country. Could be Tennessee, Oklahoma, West Virginia, southern Indiana, Arkansas. I know we don't want to go someplace really hot like Florida. Hubby will want property to hunt on. That's about it.
