Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

@wagirl - I am so happy for you, that you got your closet sorted out and organized in a way that works for you. With room to spare, what a bonus!

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought you had said that you were going to be looking for a different apartment? Am I thinking of someone else?

Not a ton here...usual "keep on top of it"...

Went over my desk the other day, shredded junk mail and paperwork not needed.

Purged more junk emails too, and files.

Went through all my nail polishes yesterday...got rid ot two old ones. All I have does fit neatly into one plastic shoe box in my closet, and also two small cosmetic bags that hold some extra nail tools & tiny, travel size, nail polishes I sometimes take on trips. Still have lots, but of what I kept, about 55 bottles, (I know sounds like a ton) but I use at least a third of them regularly...and the others ...some at holidays, (some sparkle types) and brights just on toes in summer. I know...big whoops...two bottles out! Is this even a purge?! Again....it's more of a keeping up on "inventory" and usage. There's one or two more questionable if they're too thick, I'll try on my nails when I take my current polish off.

That's it for now! Happy Tuesday.

@magicmoodz I'm so glad we got our air conditioner and furnace two years ago. Prices have sky rocketed. One reason I've been keeping stuff I bought over ten years ago (clothes, shoes, lamps, quilts...) is because the quality of new things have gone down, and the prices are going up.

What brand of vehicle did you buy? Ours are 9 and 10 years old, but they each have just over 50,000 miles, so we shouldn't have to replace them just yet.

@AuntG

How could I have forgotten? You jogged my memory. It was concerns over increasing prices and what tariffs might mean that propelled us into some major purchases.

We bought a Mazda CX5. I am ashamed to say I didn't give car buying my all. My sister, my sister-in-law, my nephew and my niece all recently purchased Mazdas. I just went with the flow.😀 In fact I called the dealer, told him what I wanted (model, color, etc) and asked him to pull the cars out of the mass of other cars to a more separate location. With my sensory overload issues I can't deal with all those cars!

You were smart to have replaced your furnace a few years ago. Today's prices are definitely sticker shock!

I had to chuckle about your efforts to do one thing and how they mushroom because we just did that.  Decided we needed to stay off ladders so gutter guards were in order.  As we completed plans, we asked how that works with Christmas lights.  Long story short, they had new product that fits on eaves and can be controlled by app (of course one needs to know how that goes).  That's probably the fastest we have ever moved on a project but we won't be getting out ladders.

@Twins Mom

Yes, sometimes buying new things propels us into buying more and more.

Your new gutter guards were a wise and safe  investment. I get nervous when my husband borrows a big tall ladder from maintenance here at our condo to change out a bulb from the white lights that he installed on the overhang of our balcony. One false move....

Oh my goodness! How do you keep your nail polish fresh? Do you store them in the refrigerator? I don't keep more than two colors at a time for my toes for fear of it getting thick and unusable.

I always get a french manicure for my fingernails. I am careless about being careful not to destroy my nails and french shows less flaws.🥴

I use a nail polish thinner to keep polish from drying out. Only a couple of drops are needed.  Then roll the bottle between your hands or gently tumble it to mix.

Never use acetone or nail polish remover to thin polish.  It does not mix well & can result in clumping inside the bottle.  You can get nail polish thinner most anyplace like Walmart, CVS, etc.

Not in the fridge. Most of them live in my bedroom closet in a plastic shoe box. I have polishes that are well over 10-15 years old, and are still fine. Only a few got thick, gloppy, over time & I tossed them. Often, within the same brand, one color may last longer than others. But very few that's happened to.

I have newer bottles I've been using lately...my latest being Londontown, for the most part on my fingernails. I like a sheer, natural, look, for most everyday...sheer pinks, clear, a few neutral nudes, or pearl colors. I love soft, natural look on my hands. I use the pops of magentas, reds, burgandys, corals for my toes in summer.

Although...this summer I just kept it simple...kept toes a Londontown, sheer, soft pearl white....went with everything, all summer, loved it. I just can't be high maintanence with it all. I like my fingernails with no polish too...but some days they're fine, then depending what I've been doing, or time of year they may get dry looking, so I just pop a clear coat on them.

Somehow...with regular usage of my new polishes, or occasional usage of my older bottles (I still have many Joan Rivers polishes, still going strong from 15 years ago! They were the best!)...either way, in that shoe box in my closet, they've held on just fine. Maybe because my bedroom isn't ever too hot?

I've tried thinning polishes, in the past, with polish remover...didn't work for me. Just made it streaky, and had to toss it.  @SactoSue I never knew about or tried thinner, that sounds much better...you're right, the remover does not work!

I've had .99 cent polish last as well as expensive name brands too. So ....not sure how or why?! But it's worked out.

I hear you, about keeping fingernails french or sheer & soft colored, with less showing of the flaws. I'm like you....I use my hands! And I don't want to baby anything!!

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

[ Edited ]

Did a drop off of some books to our library donations today.

Went through old flyers, mailers, in my magazine rack (yes, I still have one!), and recycled.

Went through more mail on my desk...that desk needs a deeper declutter of "notes to self" and papers that have been there way too long, without follow-through actions on them. Been only doing the latest incoming mail and staying on top of that. But there's papers there that have been there too long that do need action.

Not much but that's it for today.
