Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

[ Edited ]

Only two more things for me this past week.

Tossed an old nightgown.

Decided to finally let go of an old swing jacket, White, Dialogue from Q. I maybe wore 3 times in its life, bought it maybe 20 years ago. Yikes. Everytime I decluttered, tried it on, said the same thing to myself, "does not flatter me" (the idea of the jacket was better than the execution and fit for me...as usual...a hugely oversized "QVC XS", that was pleated in the back and the pleats stuck straight out! I'd always kept them pinned down with safety pins where you couldn't see them, thinking I'd tack it one day, never did.) Then for whatever reason, I'd still put it back in my closet!!

Because I actually love the jacket, just never liked how it looked on me. (I love a swing jacket, 40's look.)

Thing is now...not only won't consignment take it (spring item) but doesn't even make sense to donate, as I'm sure they would prefer seasonal items too. Not going to toss it either. So I'll probably still just donate it. Like most of you always say...."Once I've decided to clear it out...I want it out now!" Plus every little bit opens up even the tiniest more real estate in my closet.

So that was it for me this past week. My decluttering has been so slow, and little bits at a time. Again, as I always say, that's because my home is in order, I just have too much behind the scenes that I probably don't need.

@lynnie61 I just started to put out some real pumpkins on my deck this past week, changed over my dining table setting to fall, & switched out living room flameless candles. I've yet to go up to my outside storage shed to get my "fall box" & my VPH Starry Night Pumpkins, which I'll do tomorrow. (About to leave to go out today.)

I do have a very pretty VPH pumpkin hurricane with twinkle lights inside, that was my mom's, I put as the center piece on my dining room table. When I get the Starry Night pumpkins out, I'll make a setting with all of that together. 🍁 🎃 🍂 🕯️

Happy Sunday, everyone.

@lynnie61 - I only burn candles now if I get them for gifts. I have 2 scented candles here and I just started one for fall. I do have a wax melter that I enjoy using but I asked for a room diffuser for Christmas and I want to start using essential oils too.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

My son stopped by for a bit yesterday and hubby gave him a couple of things to use for deer season coming up. All the boys in my family enjoy hunting. I enjoy eating it. It sure helps with the grocery bill too as beef is SO expensive!

There is probably more here that he can have, hubby had plenty for everyone, but my son was kind of in a hurry yesterday. Maybe he'll come by another time when he doesn't have so much to do.

@taquito

I loved my Tiganello purses but they were not long in life.  I think heat affected the leather\vinyl just being in closet.  For the time period I had them, they were stylish and very functional at reasonable price point.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

My last round of decluttering is done and my focus is concentrated on daily habits that don't lead up to bigger efforts.  I work harder to shred junk mail daily, file promptly, toss worn and stained items immediately, break down boxes and get them out in the trash weekly.

I am happy with my efforts; not so much with trucker daughters!

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

I have Old Navy super cash so I used it to replace my too large flannel pj pants with a smaller size.  I got rid of at least 10 pairs and only ordered 3 new ones.  Ideally I would like to have 4 or 5 but most were Xmas themed.  I also replaced some dress pants.  I got rid of two pairs and replaced with two pairs.

Tossed a ratty, old workout tank the other day.

One in one out~finally received my new Sketchers slippers from Q yesterday, love them! Throwing out an old Grace & Lace pair that were similar but never had any support...they were warm, cozy, but cheap and flat...got them on sale for $20, 3 yrs old...been wanting to replace them with something with good support, and these Sketchers are it! I'll toss those next trip to the trash.

@RedTop I'm kind of with you these days....been happy with all my bigger efforts from the last 3-5 years (it includes all the mom stuff I had to go through during that time, both when she moved to assisted living, then when we sold her house and then when she passed too.) I only add mom's stuff to my past 5 yrs efforts, (actually 5-7 yrs~ all that was a process), because things came into my home from that, that needed sorting little by little, too, all this time.

Anyway, I've been happy where my home is at. The drawers aren't stuffed. The closets are organized. I went to get fall box out of my outdoor storage the other day and it was so easy to get what I needed, and put back my summer stuff. I was so impressed with how organized it all is up there now. I still have a lot in there (Christmas takes up the most) but plenty of room to maneuver, and I know what's up there.

That said....as I always say, there are some stored things in closets, some files, some saved sentimental things, maybe even pics again, saved cards, that if I felt like "a project" I still am always looking to streamline more. But they are out of the way. I also don't need all the clothes I have but I love fashion, so that's my thing. I do wear a lot of it.

I know I really need to, much more, focus on those home updates I always talk about wanting, but not wanting to do!! BIG process I just don't look forward to and keep putting off!! Even when I get it started, like I kind of started during spring, going to kitchen places...got some drawings then dropped the ball...gotta pick it up again...IF I EVER actually want to get it done!!

I have been doing deep Fall cleaning too...I upkeep clean each week, but only seasonally pull things apart and deep vacuum, dust, scrub. Pulled a muscle in Yoga, no less, the other day, so the healing has slowed my cleaning process 'til I can move better again!!

Ok this got rambly and long, so that's it for now ~have a good day everyone!

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

Thursday is pick up and make the place look nice day here.  So my focus today was on the stuff in the garage--empty boxes, jars that need tossed, junk that has accumulated on shelves, etc.  I have thrown away old glasses, packing, out of date laundry stuff, etc.  You know that stuff that accumulates in the garage?

My husband did the same in the house with "stuff!"

@RedTop And I am so happy for you!  It is sort of where I am--still a few biggies to go but so much better and not an all-time worry now!  I had no idea how much it was weighing on me!  Congratulations!!!!!!!

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

Hubby tossed a shirt that ripped in the elbow and I tossed a child sized outdoor fold up chair that hubby had sitting outside. It was ripped and tattered and I had no idea why he was keeping it. Now it is in the trash can.
