Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

Happy weekend y'all.

Last weekend of summerrrrrr....lol...time for me to accept reality.

But really, NOW, (not end of August, not beginning of Sept, not after Labor Day) ..is when I actually start to transition and fall, because only then is when I actually "feel" it happening, for real, in nature around me! The temps, the air, the trees...not because retail puts out a pumpkin in August! I like being in the season that actually is, until it isn't...it's the natural thing to do for me!

Anyhoo...that said, my summer deck flowers are more beautiful than ever right now, and will be until our first frost...but indoors, I'll start to change over summer into subtle fall. I don't go wild with stuff...just change over some candles, colors, pillows.

OK....meandering seasonal musings over... 🍂 🍁 🌼

Decluttering...only another little thing...yesterday went through a decorative storage box in my armoire to try to declutter more mfr's jewelry boxes I keep there...tossed 3 more and a few little velvet bags. I do keep a few of my most specialty items and gifted jewelry boxes, why? I don't know!! Lol...but little by little getting rid of those I really don't need. I still have too many little velvet bags...going to go through more.

I'm trying to let go of more real gold/silver I no longer wear...some have diamonds, gemstones in them...not sure what the gold buyer will do with those...give them back to me, to do what with? Some are so small I can't do much to reset them in a necklace or anything like that. I don't know...need to ask the gold buyer my options, and my local jeweler. One is a vintage ring from not sure who...might have been a great grandma's in my mom's stuff that came to me. I have things I know were my grandma's and mom's, but this ring, I don't love, never wear, and really don't know who's it was...if I did it might have more meaning for me. Anyhoo... Work in progress here.

Decided to return an overpriced LOGO top I bought last week...sigh $6.95 down, but $64 up, I guess. Pretty top, but I decided I was not happy enough with the fit to keep it, and spend that on it. That night everything was selling out way too quickly to check garment measurements, or I might have sized down, and it would have been better...so kind of a "declutter." I don't want "iffy" items in my wardrobe. As my mom always said..."You gotta LOVE it."

That's it for now~have a nice weekend, everyone.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

Happy Sunday, peeps. Hope all is well in your world.

Been changing out things for early fall this weekend...cleaning and organizing as I go.

While up in my "candles and stuff" cabinet, in my office, it's also where I store all my empty plastic shipping bags I receive, to use for shredding. I went through what had turned into a monster collection, stuffed in there, burying everything else! Yikes I even found a bag with shredding in it, I'd inadvertently stuffed in there, probably one day while in some process I left, I just shoved everything in there out of the way. Lol. Anyway, I certainly don't need all I'd saved...went through them and got rid of about half. I have just enough now.

Yesterday spent half the day cleaning, vacuuming etc, and it was a gorgeous one. I'm still puttering around in my pjs, not sure there'll be anymore decluttering...but maybe as I straighten things up. But mostly, today will be "day of rest" "Sunday funday"...hopefully, take a nice, last day of summer/prelude to fall y'all, drive out on the backroads.

NOW I'm ready for fall, not one day sooner than this! (and don't even get me started with Q's Christmas tree sets this wknd!)

Hope everyone has a nice day. 🍁 🎃 🍂 😊

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

I took three large trash bags full of clothes that no longer fit (too big, yay!) to my church's clothes closet. Also took 4 unused throw pillows from 2 different sofas...2 of which had been stored for several years. I wish sofas did not come with throw pillows. Sure, they go with the sofa, but they never go with my rug!

Turning my closet over next week, I'm sure there will be more clothes to go.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

Two pairs of outdated, old ankle boots, one Clark's & one Earth Brand. The Clarks I can donate. The Earth ones are pretty worn out, will just toss. I used to keep them for just rainy, yucky weather days, faux-leather, won't get wrecked ...but I have two others I can wear in that type weather, newer better condition. Tired of having these, and their bulky boxes, just hanging around for that.

I do need to update some fall/winter shoes/boots somewhat...a few better, updated styles for various outfits, or pants styles. For now I do have some good basics...but maybe some will be replaced (or just added to) with newer, updated styles as I find them.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

I’ve been slowly going through my old journals.  I've kept diaries since I was a little kid. Some I read all the way through, and others I quickly go through before tossing  them out.  I take out pictures I’ve saved, some cards, and emails.

I also have tossed a lot of my old planners.  I used to get nice ones from Birds and Blooms.  My goal is to clean out the large container in the storage room that’s full of all this stuff.

Some things I wish I would have read sooner while the person was still around.  Other things have made me feel better because I wasn’t accurately remembering what really happened.  I’ve felt guilty for years over some things, and I didn’t need to.  I did the best I could at the time and often handled it better than I remembered.

It's a weird feeling to let go of the past, but at the same time it feels good to get them out of the house.  Old thoughts and feelings that were only for my eyes.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

After so much of my time was consumed with preparations, my niece and her fiancé were married this past weekend in a blur of fun-filled 3-day activities culminating in a beautiful wedding.

Now it is time to get busy once again. I have a long To Do list and hope to get many things accomplished before the snow flies. At the same time, I feel like my summer was eaten up by projects and I am toying with the idea of getting away for a few days.

I went through all my photos and tossed a lot of them for the same reason.  Nothing risqué, but they were memories that only my husband and I shared and when people are going through my things when I'm gone I just felt that would be an intrusion on our private life together.

Two more Tignanello purses.  This time it wasn’t the trim or straps.  The leather gusset inserts on the sides and across the bottom started to peel off.  It’s either very thin leather or something else and just flaked off.  What a disappointment.  I’m not sure if it was only QVC purses Tig made this way?  Was I expecting too much?  They are probably 20 years old, but not used a lot.  I know they’re not the most expensive handbags, but they weren’t cheap, either.  Anyway, in the trash they went!

I noticed last night that one of my solar lights was burned out so I replaced it. I just get them from the Dollar Tree and have a bag of them in my garage.

[ Edited ]

Good to read some updates.  I've really not decluttered in September but need to get back at it.  Vacation, added appts, a few things had me busy.  I don't change clothes out for seasons, since I have three small closets of clothes here.  I would love one, great walk in closet, but no walk ins here.  (The house is 52 years old).

I've put out a few fall decor items, but need to check two totes out, on what could go.  My Valerie starry night pumpkins are out.  A few yard decorations, and a table runner.  I'm in the process of using my last candle!  Not sure I'm going to purchase more.  Last year I was gifted a room diffuser with essential oils.  Love it, a light mist.  Auto shutoff, pretty, and a light fragrance.
