Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

[ Edited ]

I was supposed to write my post in January, but the year is still young. It's only February, so better later than never. Last month, I donated to Goodwill more books like an old set of vintage Encyclopedia, it looked so elegant on my self, but I didn't have the space to accommodate them again. And, unfortunately, my Instant Pot, never learn how to use it, but the strange reason was, the materials they use to make the pot triggered migraines, I never understood why. I wish someone is enjoying the pot. Also, donated mugs.

I threw away old clothes. That was my decluttering for now.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

Yesterday I went through a pile of old receipts on my desk...dating back to Dec, Christmas, etc. Checked with my accounts and shredded. Did mail, junk and bills too.

Went through my small cabinet in my office where I store some small seasonal decor items and miscellaneous things (vases, cords for electronics, seasonal candles, light bulbs etc.) I keep the plastic bags (from deliveries) I use to empty the shredder with in there. I had way too many. Got rid of 6 big sloppy bags, and a few mailer envelopes. Still have plenty to use for shredding, all neatly inside one plastic bag. Only going to store so many of those.

Well, I don't know what got into me today, but I went through my closet, I was sure, I'd gone through a ton of times in the past year, with nothing new to toss or donate...and guess what, 8 items out! Taking a break, but I have more on the possible chopping block, and some I need to still try on.

This time I tried everything "in question" on, and that made the decision easy. Either felt done, outdated, didn't fit as good as I thought, or I was just no longer attached to it like I thought!

It helps I lost 11 unwanted pounds these last few months, and not that that's a big difference in sizing in my clothes, but I'm feeling better & like I'm ready for fresh, updated looks.

I've gotten my use out of items, not to worry. I keep my clothing nice, and long, and know how to reinvent them over time, but at some point there's no more reinventing to do! Some tops just felt more "cheaper & cheerful" than what I'd prefer to have now. Not that I don't buy from both sides the aisle...cheap & cheerful can be fun, but not longterm keepers like my more classic, well made items.

And kudos to me...a dedicated Jacket Gal, who collects and loves them all...I let go of two Banana Republic jackets, and one Dialogue spring swing jacket from many moons ago. All 3 still in great shape, just not what I want or reach for anymore...I have other better ones to wear.

One top with a hole will be tossed.

A few things will be donated...summer sundress, a little shrug, a few other tops I know won't be worth consigning.

The jackets I'll try to consign; I know at least one of my shops will take them all. The other shop, who knows, as I've said before, if they find one pill or loose string, they'll scrunch up their nose and say "oh, too bad...you see this little thing right there...?!" NO. I don't. 🙄 I'm annoyed already!🤣 Only reason I might try them is I may have a check there from stuff I brought last season...if so, I'll run two of the jackets by them. That black Banana R. one is perfect so they better not even start with me!

So, 8 items & more to go through. There's a dressy dress I've decided to let go of I need to get out. It was pretty, lacey, wore it New Year's Eve, about 6 years ago. If I have another dressy event I know I'll want something new and updated.

This is getting too long, so that's it for today! I'm just so pleased with myself because I thought a clothing purge was a longshot for me. I had listened to one of my Style YouTubers talking about what to purge today and it inspired me to go through stuff, yet again...turns out it was just the right time for a fresh mindset on old, held onto items today!!

Oh yea, got rid of two baseball caps too.

I feel as if I am slacking compared to some of you. I continue to work on getting rid of emails, text messages, photos and bookmarks (of which I have over 1,200🥴).

Because we had such mild weather I think my cleaning circadian rhythm got mixed up and think I should do some spring cleaning!

I was frustrated with my bathroom floor (specifically the grout) so took a chance buying The Pink Stuff cleaner and it really works wonders. My white grout is sparkling! I purchased it at Target, but it is also on Amazon.

I also used it on my stainless steel pots and pans. They too look great.

A local tv personality recently recommended a clothes steamer that he demonstrated on tv. It was impressive and Amazon had it marked down $15 the other day so I jumped on it. I have two blazers that needed pressing. I called my dry cleaners and they charge $10.50 + tax for pressing each one.

So this morning I steamed the blazers and I am very happy with the results. If you ever need a steamer I would definitely recommend this one. It is the "Jack and Rose". It seems very well made and creates so much steam I barely had to get close to the fabric.

Today I went through some skin care and makeup.  Can't donate the things I'm getting rid of so will toss them.

Still working up in my office/loft...multi projects going on.

You know how when those projects start as one thing, then grow...and get BIGGER...before they wrap up? It's getting bigger because I really want to go through that whole room, and it's a multi-purpose room. Office, workout room, crafting, book shelves, some storage cabinets, files. So right now....it's going to be messy but "in process" for a while.

Still trying on clothes from that closet, while starting to reorganize and transition closet (fall went to the far back, transitional and spring started to move forward, winter's still up front. No more clothing purges today because I totally shifted over to my desk.

My desk today was "the thing" and it's still not anywhere near done. Took everything off it to dust and treat the wood with the lemon oil I bought a few months ago...I highly recommend that, again...the desk is gleaming like new and the wood looks and feels beautiful. That pretty wood was hiding under "stuff" and dust!

Went through all my pens, and markers, tossed several. Still going through all paperwork, notes, everything, in every holder, file etc...so much...this type thing takes so much time, reading what's important to save, what to toss. Plodding away at it.

Went through an old accordian card holder, so many outdated cards (plastic ones - old credit cards, store member cards, medical cards) in the shredder with all dead ones.

Other miscellaneous paperwork in one of my baskets got tossed, shredded. Threw out an old calculator someone gave me as a promotional item...hasn't had a battery for like 20 years, and haven't used it in as much. Didn't know I still had it. I have one other small physical calculator, though I always just use the one on my iPad anyway.

I stay up to date with current paperwork on my desk, but today I went through all the "pockets" of stuff that rarely gets visited but has "lived" up there a while, in files, baskets etc.

A work in progress, that's growing rather than getting smaller, for now....stay tuned...

@magicmoodz I love the looks of that steamer, and the price! If I hadn't bought one on Amazon a few months ago, I'd have bought it! I needed one for a while and saw one on Amazon for a decent price with good ratings and bought it...though I've yet to open it up and try it out!

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

I'm going to dive under a couple of my (lower) kitchen cabinets and toss/donate all of those pots, pans, cookie sheets, etc. that I haven't used in years.

I looked in there this morning and thought: "WHY am I keeping this stuff??!!" Smiley LOL

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

This morning I took the boxes and other recycling out to the recycling dumpster.  Was thinking of going through some clothes but my knee is hurting to much to stand at the closet and do that so that'll have to wait for another day.

Have a good Friday.
