Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

Snow me in for 2 days and.....

I have several things to take to consignment this week.  Nothing major, but some stuff.  I've been on the prowl, looking for things to go. A few things for goodwill also. Again, nothing major.

Snow me in for 2 days and....

I've done a little online shopping. Nothing major, but (I can't believe I'm typing this) 3 gifts for Christmas, a mere 11 months away.  A really nice item, on clearance. Couldn't pass it up.  I bought it x4.  One for me. 3 for gifts.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

@JudyL - definitely. In the armoire in my office. Where all gifts live.  I'm am like hyper organized and really don't have a ton of possessions.

Whohoooo....my big tree is down! Ornaments all put in their boxes, then into the Periea boxes ready for outdoor storage. Just got to get the big tree box from storage, and pack it away! Jan. 13th is a record for me! Was not in the mood to "light up the dark month of Jan" this year, or recreate it into a Valentine tree! Been there, done that, enjoyed doing it. But feeling different this year and going with the flow! Smiley Happy

Here's how I truly feel this year....too much to enjoy, and focus on in the present, and look forward to in this new year, to be held back by what transpired last month/year! This opens up the energy in my home for that, without "blocking the chi" as the Feng Shui experts would say, with Christmas still being up in my home.

Y'all might be rolling eyes or laughing at me because most "normal" peeps take down their tree, NO prob, at least by Jan 6, or sooner. But I've often dragged it out.

Only thing left, for now, is my "pencil" tabletop tree by the fireplace because it looks seasonal. Only has some red berries, pinecones and white lights...took the Christmas heart ornaments off it, and packed them with all the rest. It's just for today... it may or may not stay long or become a Vday tree (I have Vday  hearts, that aren't the Christmas ones I took off it already), this year...we'll see.

Put aside a Farberware electric coffee pot to donate. Bought a small Mr. Coffee Drip one last year, that lives on my counter. I like how the coffee comes much better in that, and it's the only one I use now.

Went through more old papers on my desk upstairs, more shredding.

That's it for today~got errands to run and a few Christmas returns. Have a good day!

ps. Further to my last post...still deciding when/if I'll put up the white birch. I love it, it's perfectly fine for this season then straight up to Easter when I put eggs and butterflies on it. But not yet there, want to finish getting Christmas packed upstairs, then...we'll see.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

Hello friends!

I have been quiet lately. I'm not sure what my problem is, but I feel stuck--as if my feet are encased in cement. I don't want to do anything including decluttering. 😕

I'm not sure how to climb out of this funk. Maybe I have seasonal affective disorder? That is a stretch though. Remember when Minnesota was considered nothing more than a frozen tundra? Well all of last year and so far this year we have had very mild weather. I almost feel guilty that we are having such good weather when I see what is happening around the country. I should be very, very grateful. Ok, enough of my whining!

@amyb good for you for evaluating what is important to you. Life is fluid and we get to decide if we are done with all the elaborate decor. If you remember, I gave our tree away at the beginning of the season and really never missed it.

However, I LOVE your birch tree!❤️ Can I ask where you got it? I can see having that on my balcony. We already have lights strung on the overhang--and turn them on every morning and every evening year round. We call them our party lights!

@magicmoodz I've had that kind of funk sometimes in the dead of winter, when in CT we used to be hit with big storm after storm after frigid, dark days....hang in there. Even though you've been blessed with better weather, it's probably still darker than other times of year. If you think it may be SAD, maybe invest in one of those lights?

Maybe just try to do something you enjoy that might bring you to feel something different...if you like to read, or focus on a puzzle, a craft, or something mindless, relaxing...or just give in to it, do nothing, especially the decluttering, if that's how you feel....this too, including winter, shall pass.

Sometimes I think winters like that are meant for us to hybernate and slow down, so maybe that's why we get that way.

The tree! Amazon. They had many....if I can find exactly what this one was (it was sent to me) I'll post that later.

Funny/kooky story how I came to get this....2020, we all know "that" year...we all were affected differently, did what we needed to get through. So that year, I'd lost my mom early in the pandemic, then all the rest of being shut in etc. Many of us were doing things differently that year to bring more comfort and some joy. Long story long, that Nov...I  ordered the Christmas tree I have now, online, it came Tksgvg wkd, I put it up immediately, then never took it down! It became the Valentine tree after Christmas. Skipped over St. Patty's day, but Easter was happening pretty early that year, and mom passed the year before Good Friday week. I wanted to make it an Easter tree! (By the way, the tree has 9 light settings so I could do white lights for Vday, and for Easter, it actually had a gold/white/purple blue setting that fit that holiday.)

But...suffice to say...oy vay....my evergreen with eggs and fake lillies from Bed Bath and Beyond...looked so silly 😜 as an Easter tree! Big eggs with bunnies, and a fake yellow lilly as a topper and as picks throughout? Evergreen trees don't grow spring flowers so yea....NO. My bf looked at it...didn't criticize it...but shared my feelings with me about how can I make this an Easter tree? 2 days later this pretty birch came to my door. He had found it and sent it to me. I bought more egg ornaments and a few butterfly clips to put on it, from Amazon too. I put pretty, live potted spring bulbs beneath it.

I'll see what I can find out but look there. It is not battery operated just fyi...will need a plug...but those are the ones that work best I think. Not sure your deck is covered, this would not be an outdoor tree. Anyhoo...check around on Amazon...I hope you find one you love. ✨

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

I found an old fashioned pedometer that hubby had bought on clearance several years ago, brand new in the package that I am going to donate. I don't think we will ever clip a pedometer to our belt again.

Went thru a couple of drawers in the kitchen and found 2 oven mitts to donate. Also 2 other things that were handmade and gifted to me I will donate. I am not sure what they are for, maybe a hot pad? But they are kind of thin and I'm not sure I would trust them for that. They look like thick doilies. I will donate them too.

@magicmoodz Ok, here's all we could find out...it came from "The Twinkle Star/Bright Your Life" company, through Amazon, but it's no longer available on Amazon. I can't post the current link, but it brings me to that company's website. I didn't check but hopefully you can find it or one like it there...they seem to have all kinds of fun, pretty lit things. Also, there are several similar options on Amazon still too.

Let me know how you do! Good luck.
