Re: Declutter 2024: What Have You Purged Today?

@amyb   I think your tree (and valentine tree) is so nice.   Agree  with @rnmom   Who cares?  It looks beautiful.  Enjoy and don't feel guilty.  I will admit I've not made it to February.  I could have a tree up all year.  After 5-6 weeks, SO is ready to put it away.  🤣

Tku. Lol...well, even I wouldn't do all year, but I get there's people who have a tree they like to change up seasonally. To me an evergreen tree just doesn't fit the feel of things every season, like with seashells on it for summer! But to each there own.

2020 into 2021, when we were all a bit off kilter, still not back to "normal"...I put the Christmas tree up earlier, (that was the year I got this new one) and actually tried to keep it up through Easter! Went to Michael's, bought all these decorative, hanging eggs, and some fake lillies...put them on the tree. BAaaad. BF and I had a good laugh, then he surprised me and ordered and had sent a twinkle light birch tree you hang Easter eggs on to use instead. Was pretty. I put live Easter flowering plants under it too. I never got that out last year, but have used it a few years during Easter.

I haven't done Vday every year...I really do feel it out each year. And not to worry...I never feel guilty...I just laugh because, whatever I proclaim I'm going to do each year...it usually turns out differently! Smiley Happy

Here's some visuals to go along with my last post...Christmas morphing into Valentine's. So far...no matter how I "talk" about "not bothering" "simplifying"...I, so far, still enjoy doing it. Smiley Happy I think I just need to hire a sherpa to schelpp it all in and out! That part I don't enjoy. Although...I'm more organized and streamlined with it's storage, as I've ever been these days. One day, I'll want to lighten up.

Oh how lovely! The glow of your Christmas tree provides such a warm ambiance. And your Valentine's tree is adorable.  I like that you think outside the box😅

My mother-in-law kept a skinny tree up in a corner of the sunroom at their lake home year round (it was their second home) and she would decorate it for each season. Memories!

Hubby took an old pair of headphones from one of my kids to his school to see if one of his students can use them.

Went through my magazine rack, that I only keep, for the most part, flyers, mailers, free periodicals in there...anyway, went through that and also summer catalogs, to recycle today.

Tossed, saaaaadly, one of my favorite nightgowns...100% white cotton, worn and washed to death, torn in a way I really couldn't sew...as my mom used to say "it had had it!!" Have looked online for another like this many times, to no avail...it was called "Marisa Christina"...I found in Marshalls, probably 6 or 7 years ago! Oh well...I'll keep looking.

Dreary day here in CT, was staying in to get inside things done...but just got off the phone with a long distance friend for 90 min! So I'm behind...I'll see what else gets done.

Need to go over all the papers, bills etc on my desk and file.

Back to work.

**update...filled and emptied the shredder with things I went through on my desk. More to do, and filing too. But I've been a little lazy in between doing things today, lol. I admit it! I do a little and then take a break! I can say, I have to "be in the mood" to read and respond and decide and act on paperwork...and I wasn't today...and it can get overwhelming some days. Anyhoo...got some done anyway today!!

Re: Declutter 2024: What Have You Purged Today?

Removed everything but the refrigerator/freezer from our garage and thoroughly cleaned and reorganized. I kept asking my husband why we needed things. He said to toss out what had no value, so I put a big bag in the garbage. Tomorrow I'll hose down the floor, and clean the window and blinds. Some awful "box elder bugs" invaded our neighborhood today. They are one thing I detest in fall. I guess it will take a hard frost to get rid of them!

Well, a few "I'm disgusted with this!" quick purges...

Threw out two "Coobie bras" that have been annoying me for a while, lol. They are a brand of "stretchy pull-over" bras I wore either with loungewear at home or to exercise with. BUT, those dang straps that you could take off, always would snap or fall off when putting the bra on. First world problems, for sure...and yet...yesterday, they got on my last nerve...I tossed two of them out. That and the fact that I felt they didn't seem as supportive and maybe had worn out a bit in supportiveness. Done. If I buy that type again it won't have removable straps! And for working out, best to have a regular sports bra or top...which I see good Jockey brand etc, at Marshall's everytime I'm there.

Also just tossed another Jockey workout top I've had for years...wore it yesterday, was a bit too cropped for how I want to wear them, and even though I put a tee over it, didn't like the feel of it being too short underneath...worn out anyhoo.

I held on long enough to all 3 items...but when I'm done, I'm just done!

Small purges to start the day...that's it for now. Happy weekend, all.

Yesterday I was in the mood to attack more stored paperwork, more desk things and do some filing updates.

Filled the shredder again and gotta empty before doing a bit more. I don't save everything, but I keep a folder with this year's billing statements until tax time, and 3 yrs back financial statements in 2 loose leaf notebooks.

Yes, I know...most things are online, for a good period of time...and I know some people who look at their statements, then shred and don't keep any of that paper in their home. Good for them!! I mean that...but I'm not there, may never be. If I want to see something from the year or two before, or something for taxes...so much easier to me to look at my physical stuff. It's all contained in one small file cabinet, and one portable file, just for financials, up in my loft/office.

So I got filing up to date yesterday. As, I think, @rnmom once said...as I do mail, bills, etc...I pile things on top of the file cabinet to be filed all at once, maybe once a month. As I was filing things away yesterday, noticed a few other categories that can be shredded, next go 'round.

Felt accomplished for yesterday.

Rainy, dreary Sunday...but going to theater today (everytime we do it rains!), so that's a good rainy day activity...so, no more decluttering for this wkd!

Have a good day, everyone. ☔️

Re: Declutter 2024: What Have You Purged Today?

Hubby and I did just a big of organizing in the garage yesterday getting it ready for winter. We usually clean it every spring and we didn't do that this year but we did add some shelves in there earlier this year and things just needed to get spruced up a bit.

I don't think we really tossed anything, maybe one empty box and a container a plant came in. There are a couple of big items in there that he needs to get to his sister, he brought them home from his mom's for her and they have been sitting here for a while now. I told him that if she wants them she has to come get them in the next week or two or else they are going. I don't mind that he brought them home for her but if she wants them she needs to get them sooner rather than later. Otherwise they will be sitting there til next spring.

I've been pretty agreeable with all of the stupid stuff he has been bringing home and keeping from her house but I refuse to store stuff for his sister here for months too. I have to draw the line somewhere.

Re: Declutter 2024: What Have You Purged Today?

Happy Sunday Funday!

Last of the company off after a busy summer of comings and goings. Decided it was time to say SAYONARA! to the following for drop off at the animal shelter on Tuesday.

-6 bath towels

-7 washcloths

-1 bath mat

-2 hand towels

-6 kitchen towels

I've been using older towels and hanging newer ones in the guest bathrooms. No more! Moved all the newer ones into my bathroom rotation and will dole out to guests as needed.

I'm not a fan of damp towels sitting around, so not worried about running out. Crazy how they have multipled over the years and I don't need to keep for rags as have nice supply on hand. And, there is no need to just let multiples hang in the bathrooms not used when no company. DUH!

Nice to catch up on everyone's progress. KUDOS!

Bless your heart @rnmom and I don't blame you for putting your foot down on not storing for others. I was storing items for a family member and later they decided they did not want the items. Miffed with myself for letting that drag on and keeping a room cluttered. Live and Learn, eh.

Have a great week all!
