Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

I think of this thread as Adventures in Decluttering, altho at times I have MIS-adventures when deluttering. As in I start working in an area, something catches my eye so that my sense of purpose goes off the rails.

We had a lovely cooler day with clouds, perfect for digging a few things out of a backyard storage unit. A large roasting pan & lid, the kind that was used many years ago for turkeys as I recall, is cleaned up and boxed to go. It was in nearly new condition and had been my mom's but that was a few decades back. Why I was keeping it all these years is a mystery!

Also packed up a ceramic cow creamer in bubble wrap, a hair appliance that is basically brand new but too heavy and awkward to easily use, and a blue metal spatterware kettle I found on a lower shelf of my potting bench. I have no idea where it came from but there it was. But soon it will be gone! Then there is the excerise "thing" that has bicycle pedals but it wasn't used in years and had been luking under the dining table all that time. (We haven't used the dining table much for dining in a while, and then only 2 people at one end.) I find stuff in weird places!

So not an impressive purge today but enough to make me happy. I wll be sure to drop it off at my chosen thrift place along with the box I overlooked a couple of weekends ago. Let's keep this purge thing going, just a couple of more months of 2022 and December may be good for me shedding some unused holiday decor.

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

Good morning fellow declutterers.
Can't say I have made any further progress in actually getting more out of here, lol, other than the occasional broken or worn out items along the way, but I have compiled a list of about a dozen (and counting) items I want gone. These are items I have family members who expressed an interest in, so I now see that I will have to let them know there is a "deadline" when I want the items gone, as it seems that while they want these things, they don't have any urgency in actually coming to get them. And, really, isn't that always the way this goes? I do know how busy everyone is, so I have been cutting them a lot of leeway, but I'm going to have to give less leeway it seems.
I will be sorting through all my many years' worth of Christmas/holiday decor items, along with a big tree, that a granddaughter does want, but I need to free up some space for this project. She wants to pick up the decor and tree Thanksgiving weekend, so my time is limited in getting everything sorted. I am not eliminating all holiday decor, just downsizing drastically.
I cleaned out the fridge this morning for trash pickup on Tuesday morning. I don't know how I keep missing expired items when I have done this before, but I had several things to toss out.
In prep for having someone come in later this week to do some repair work in the downstairs bathroom, I have been working on clearing everything out of there and wiping everything down.
I have also been replacing a few damaged boards on the privacy fence surrounding the pool. That has actually been a fun, satisfying job, just doing it myself, with no help, lol.
Also, my brother, with whom I have spent time weekly helping out, for years, passed away 10 days ago, 34 days after losing my DH, it's been a really, really busy & difficult time for me lately, but I am trying to move forward.
As always, I do read all the posts almost daily, although many days I personally have nothing to report. I am hoping to have more going out soon, than is coming in.

@Snicks1   Oh my.  I’m sorry for your loss.  Two deaths, that’s a lot to handle.  Thinking of you.  I know the purging can take up some time, but please make time for YOU too.  Hugs and prayers.

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

Hello @Snicks1

I want to extend my deepest sympathy to you on the loss of your dear brother. It's so soon after losing your husband and it's not easy. 😢

Be gentle with yourself during this time. You do not have to anything right now other than to take care of you.

God bless you friend. Kbeans

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

@Snicks1 - I just read your post. My deepest condolences to you on the loss of your brother.  And so close to the loss of your husband. I am so very sorry.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

I did manage to do more shredding today, some mine, some DH's. I also dug through some items in my dresser drawers and found a few items I have no use for, along with just 2 items that were DHs, so I have them bagged up and ready to go next time I am in that area of town.
I am taking "baby steps" through this process, as I don't want to do anything that I will regret later on.
Had lunch with a friend today, which was a nice distraction.
Have a great evening, everyone.

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

Purged my Fall decor, tableware and donated a sewing machine that has been collecting dust.

I'm committed to realistically look at the excess in my closets, etc. and I'm proud to say I have not bought any new decor, clothing (could shop my closet😉) or anything else!  My cc and checking account are happy🙂🙂

The more I do it the easier it gets to part with "my treasures"🙂🙂

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

I had a small tote of donations from wedding decor that was not used. The thrift store is taking a Donation Vacation, so it will have to wait for a later date as I will be in the hospital next week. Purging is all but done now until January for that reason.
