Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

Fridge purge this morning as it's trash pickup day. Recycling goes tomorrow.

Started a new Donate bag today with the suede clogs I wore yesterday. The suede was stretched out from when I was larger. Did not realize that while I still wear the same shoe size my feet have gotten smaller. The clogs are in very good shape, but too large and the heel height is not the most comfortable. Considering the number of shoes that I have I can let this pair go.

That will be it for today as I will be away from home most of today and tonight. Dog sitting on Saturday, so I will have a chance to be at home and see what I can get to at that time.

Trying to make up for not decluttering all summer and for preparing my house pre-surgery and holidays. I only have 2 weeks left.

Hi everyone...everyone is really moving along with things, nice to see.

So, just some little followup things for me...

Picked up my small check from one of those new consignment shops I tried last spring, where I said they only took 4 items and sold two things...but whatever, every little bit I'm grateful for. The shop is so cute, it is hard not to shop while I'm there, but I'm really being disciplined right now about randomly shopping. However, when I am looking to buy, or gift give...I'm definitely going to try here and the other new consignment shop I tried last spring. They have lots of cute, new or like new jewelry, accessories, home decor, and clothing.

As for the 2nd shop...I called them yesterday, because I knew I was in my window of time to pick up anything that didn't sell, and I want just the jewelry back to try at another shop. I was surprised and pleased as they said I have a $89.00 check. But not too surprised because I've been so impressed with her shop...I follow her on Instagram and she posts everyday tons of individual items for sale and also pics of merchandised areas of the store with groupings of beautiful items, along with pricing. She also posts each week items that have "sold." She's very proactive with her marketing, and orgainzed with info on what's for sale and what sold.

I SO wish I'd branched out from my usual one place I'd consigned all these years, when we emptied my mom's home....I'd have had SO many nice things that I know would have sold well at her shop. I had so many things to find homes for then, and gave away a lot too. I consigned as well but only made a little compared to the amount of things I gave. Oh well. I know of her now. So I'll be picking up my check next week as well as bringing anything I have for winter and holiday. I'll have to review this this weekend, and also see if there's anything else to add.

I've also continued, to bit by bit, go through photo boxes & albums, and consolidate again. I did this last year and downsized a lot...but I still am curating just what I want, the best photos, memories etc. I've also gotten rid of lots of negatives I'll never need again. Even if I lost the photos, I'd never be trying to go through negatives to reprint them!

That's it for now~hope everyone has a nice weekend! 🍁🌞🍂

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

@queendiva   I may have missed it.  What surgery are you having? (if I’m not intruding).  You have made great progress here.   Thoughts and prayers for a successful surgery.

I tossed a lot out today from the fridge.  Just never always check all the condiments enough!  Usually try to use veggies, etc before it’s time to toss.  Usually make a big stir fry or A veggie fratatta or omelet (or toss in a pot of homemade soup)

Really busy at my job, and haven’t spent much downtime working at the decluttering.  Need to get back at it.  Love keeping up on everyone else’s progress.  Great job ladies.!

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

I added a dish drying mat to my donate pile. It was cute, but just too small to be practical.

Tossed a straw hat that must have gotten brittle, was actually breaking.

That's it for me, just those couple of small things. I would like to go thru some things in my son's roon but he's never home and I need to work with him. Football is done soon, so maybe we'll have some time in a couple of weeks.

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

Well, I drove past one of the donation places that has received many of my items. There was a sign that they are not accepting donations at the present time.

And the last time I tried to donate to Goodwill they also had a sign that they were not accepting donations. Will have to check Salvation Army. Last time we donated to them, they were so excited to get my husband's sneakers.

I want to bring out my winter clothes but I know I won't have the room for them, if I don't do a major purge.

From what I hear, SA is a better organization than Goodwill, because they donate rather then sell items. Not sure if that even matters to you, or the details of each organization, it's just what I keep hearing about both. Not sure Goodwill profits don't just go to the CEO. Unfortunately, I only have Goodwill near me and have donated a lot over the years there. No good SA drop offs near me. I was able to donate to them, (and they picked up), when I emptied mom's home...they took some big pieces of furniture, a sewing machine and other things.

Good luck with your continued purging and hope you can get your winter clothes out soon.

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

@amyb I would prefer to donate to Salvation Army. Number #1 reason - they really appreciate everything we ever donated. I think alot of the items go to homeless people. That is why they were so excited to see all the pairs of sneakers we donated. Many had never been worn because my husband bought sneakers 2 at a time because he would go through sneakers when he was running. And he abruptly gave up running so he had quite a nice assortment.

Number 2 - Salvation Army is about 45 minutes away.  Good Will has 2 stores within 15 minutes of my house.

And I tried to donate to the County homeless shelter. But they only accept items that are wrapped in their original wrapping. If it is not wrapped in original wrapping they will not accept it.

And yes I need to get the winter clothes out. I have one pair of sweat pants that I have been wearing. And the only reason I have them is because I just bought them. All my warm clothes are still packed away. Shorts just doesn't cut it now.

From The Salvation Army Thrift Store New York, NY
"When you donate goods to The Salvation Army, those items are then sold at our Family Stores. Proceeds are used to fund our Adult Rehabilitation Centers, where those struggling with drugs and alcohol find help, hope, and a second chance at life."

People who shop at Goodwill support communities and protect our environment. Our proceeds go to help people with disabilities and disadvantages do powerful things, like find work, gain independence, and build careers. And, because our inventory is donated, it’s all green.

Maybe they all have their own mission statements. The SA near me is pretty expensive for second hand items.
Also, I always wonder why some places insist on original wrapped items and put their noses up on some pretty decent items? 🤔

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

Been awhile but I did manage to get back on track today LOL!  I have been weeding through bins downstairs that contain fall items even though I had my fall decor up!  So I packed up more Luminara candles and some candle sticks to donate.  Then some kitchen items and just odds and ends from bathroom decor to these odd rubber cleaning gloves with tentacles on them that are impossible for me to use!  Just too big and awkward ...seemed like a good purchase to try at the time...NOT!  Everything is in the back of my truck.

The rest of this weekend is going through the long sleeve tops and sweaters to donate.  I want a full truck for Monday's drop off.

I just can't believe how many tops I have!  I did the seasonal swap carrying up on hangers my summer tops to the upstairs closet with all the fall tops coming down on hangers.  CRAZY amount of tops.  Then I see more tops on Q and want to buy them!  I did NOT do that but still I am not even wearing what I already have.

At least everything being donated is for this season....hope it helps others out as these things are all in perfect condition.  I simply have to much.

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

Today's purges:

A small bag of clean, lightly worn bras from a large thrift store that I know sells them.

A large shopping bag full of clothes and the suede clogs to another thrift.

Time to start one more donate bag.

Found a great new local jeweler! Getting my jewelry cleaned, sized and repaired after many years.

Sold a 14K hollow link bracelet, probably bought at the Q. It had quite a bit of damage, though not to the naked eye. Have not and will not wear it. Got good $ for it and applied the $ to the cost of the repairs. Also consigned a 14k white gold ring with a small diamond solitaire. If it sells I would get 60%, which is nearly double what I paid for it earlier this year on FB Marketplace. I have other rings I like better. Better than just sitting in my jewelry armoire.

Nice to have unused, unwanted items leave the house. Makes room for the new.

On a side note, I was invited into a neighbor's home this morning. Just passed through the garage, laundry and a couple of rooms to the basement. Wow! this home was uncluttered, bright and immaculate. Newly painted white walls and new white carpet. Midtone wood furniture. Makes me want to rethink my aesthetic. Even the garage was perfectly clean and clutter-free. She is a single woman, as am I . That's where the similarity ends, LOL!

Inspiring.
