Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

I like the idea of doing a pass at each room.  I often declutter by doing a first pass at things and returning later.  I tend to do this with paperwork.

I tossed a few expired items today.  Not much, but at least it's gone.

Great point, @rnmom , about things for decluttering sort of "ripening" in your mind, to the point that you are ready to pass them on at a somewhat later date.

This week I donated some throw pillows, other household items, and a comforter, which to your point, I wouldn't have given away six months ago.  But then, I suddenly knew I wouldn't use it-- and it was time to donate.

@Oznell - Exactly. Sometimes I think I may use something and then after several months go by and I don't, then I'm ready to let it go. Or I just get tired of looking at an item and decide to release it. Some things are easy, others, not so much.

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

Hello all!  I was posting here a few weeks ago and since then, we sold our house within one day.  I have about 1 1/2 weeks to get everything left packed, thrown away, sold, or given away.  I thought I had gotten rid of a lot of stuff over the past year, but now the rest is closing in on me.

Everything we're keeping is going into one UPack cube, which isn't a lot of space. Fortunately, the new owners are allowing us to leave behind everything we can't get out (thank you seller's market.) That is a huge help, but I don't want to leave much for them to have to get rid of.

This morning my husband has finally agreed to go into the garage and go over everything there.  That will be a huge hurdle.  I'm off to work now and expect to be busy until we're gone.

Best to all!

[ Edited ]

Still shredding old paperwork here. 🥴

I decided to go through my cabinets and closets today. Didn't expect to find much as I did a ruthless purge last year, but I came up with a few things.

I'm donating a blow dryer I don't use. The nozzle is really long & I kept hitting my head with it every time I used it. Ouch!

Also a few plastic containers with lids, a plastic cake plate and serving knife, 3 throw pillows I haven't used in years and have been stored in a closet, and a task lamp with an adjustable neck that never gets used. I have 2 of them so I'm donating one.

@CSpaniel

You definitely have an incentive to declutter!

Congratulations on the (quick!) house sale.

Good luck packing and moving.

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

@threecees    Something to consider, thanks for sharing.  I have not bought one home decoration or ANY stuff in 2022.  I made it through March!   Trying to use what I have and pare that down too!

Trying to to get my slightly overstocked pantry to a manageable point.  There are two of us here and too many backups of staples.  Glad to have it with higher pricing, but I sometimes I just don’t always use everything that I bought.  Need to plan better.

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

I also worked on some shredding and filing this past week and did dump the small shredder a couple of times.

I added a turtleneck and a pair of pants to my small donate bag. I wear turtlenecks all the time in the winter and this one just felt a big snug and uncomfortable when I tried it on and the pants were my son's that he outgrew.
