DIY Project Limitations

[ Edited ]

Have you ever had a DIY home project go awry?

This week, I decided to add a coat of satin polyurethane to the top of an antique buffet I have that's well over 100 years old. The applicator I had didn't fit in the small can, so I used folded paper towels. Even with the door open, the smell was nasty.

The next day, the buffet top looked beautiful except ... I had polyurethaned a tiny piece of paper towel onto the buffet top! Lol. My BFF told me to sand it down and refinish that area, but I knew that if I did that the tiny spot would turn into a huge spot. So, now I'm waiting for a dot of matching stain with poly to dry and crossing my fingers.

It kind of matches the allen wrench that's still inside of a chair I assembled. I'm still learning my limitations. Lol

Did the polyurethane dry okay?  Sometimes if you put it on over an old stain or oil based finish the result is disastrous.

I will NEVER AGAIN buy anything that "requires assembly".    I once bought a microwave cart that took DAYS of muscle power......

Congratulations on your effort! Never mind the."disaster" naysayers. Many people won't even try to undertake a diy project. I'm sure your remedy will work wonderfully! Don't let one tiny boo-boo ruin your desire to keep going forward on new projects. Have fun and enjoy the process. That's why we craft and do DIY projects anyway! Enjoy your newly finished piece!

Good luck @Desert Lily  I give you massive kudos for even attempting this. You will get it right and all will be fine. I'm sorry to say I kinda chuckled at your delema.
