DESIGNER CREATES HOME FOR HER PARENTS

I always think it so interesting when designers create rooms for their own families.  They know them so well, and it must be a close collaboration.  Here's a young Toronto designer, who gives us some clues about her parents.  She says her mother Debbie is a fashionista;  she wanted blush and "flesh" tones incorporated in the house;  her mother loves designer Kelly Wearstler (so do I!),  Of her father, she says his Italian heritage figured into the design, and that cooking and the kitchen were very important to him as well as her mother.

To me the house looks sleek, yet soft, as in the family room.  It definitely looks like they don't have to worry about young kids leaving blackberry jam on the upholstery!  I absolutely love that powder room.  Didn't like the lotus wallpaper in bedroom.  Overall, nice job by daughter attentive to her parents' interior desires!

Lots of money floating around in this house rebuild, redesign and redecoration.....lots of "over the top" glitz, not for me!

Lots of quality elements and overall nicely done interiors IF that's your aesthetic, but nothing about it is mine, so I wouldn't be pleased with the results. I also think I might have reconfigured the eating and somewhat meager 'family room' areas. I'm also really, really tired of all the grey-greige neutrals and geometrics that have become almost trite in the world of design. Not my idea of a 'dream home'.

I think that home is just stunning.  The only objection- I would never put a TV in my formal dining room. If you have a formal dining area it's generally for family get togethers and a tv (to me) is a distraction.

Glad I’m not her mom.

Pretty but way too modern and white for me. Not warm at all.

I think it is gorgeous but lacks warmth. It would be perfect for me if the furniture was more comfy cozy and a little less gold in fixtures.

Re: DESIGNER CREATES HOME FOR HER PARENTS

It does seem rather cold, and even impersonal, for the home of folks who are older than the designer, AND her parents.

She says her mom wanted certain colors, but I see very little warmth.  The bedroom is especially cold.

I can also say from experience that those four-"pronged" handles on the faucets will be much harder to manipulate as those parents age.  Single lever types, like these, are much easier to use as your hands and/or hand strength ages.  On the other hand, it seems they have plenty of funds to replace anything they would want or need to replace.

Re: DESIGNER CREATES HOME FOR HER PARENTS

Loved it, but only saw 1 chair I might be comfortable in, and that was in the room the dad mainly used.  LR was beautiful, but the chairs looked as though they leaned back in sort of an awkward way.  Fabulous kitchen and dining area.  I would enjoy those.
