I too would go with the recliners and a table between them. I have that situation in our livingroom (which we seldom use) and I have a loveseat in front of it, I hate it. My curtains and drapes are an issue and since my window is a bow window anything I put there is not easily accessible. Being foolish I have plants in there and need to water them! LOL!!

The older I get the less I like a couch. I have two in separate rooms and I never sit in either. I want a nice big comfy recliner that I can easily get out of. The new couch looks low to me and eventually will be a problem. I also have an issue with big furniture in front of windows.
If you do go with the couch I would definitely change the window dressing. Maybe take down the valance and put up some semi sheers.

If it were my home, I would not place the sofa in front of the bow window nor would I have the existing sofa there either.
Becuse of the room looking like a retangle , is that why the sofa is placed against the window ? Is the TV against the opposite wall across from the sofa?
Agree, would rethink , if the sofa would be used or would 2 recliners be more comfortable and easier to get out of for an aging couple.
I'd take down the valance , maybe have a header with fabric on it instead.

No to both couches in front of the window. Both couches look far too big and puffy for the size of the room. Two Laz-z-boy high leg recliners placed at angles and a table between them would open up the room and give easier access to the window shades. The valance is dated, replace with sheers.

Thank you all for your input! Having different people weigh in really helps.
They want a reclining sofa (old couch has one on each end) or recliners since this is a cozy Family Room for kicking back and relaxing, watching movies, etc. They have a separate more formal Living Room so this room can stay casual and comfy.
The option of the 2 recliners with the table in between would be recliners that match the couch so they would be larger and not swivel (I don't have a photos of these but the photo below is the loveseat they would get for the other wall). This is for their Family Room; their Living Room already has a large window with 2 swivel chairs and table in front of it. So, the 2 recliners would still be tall but not take up the entire window and the small table would allow more of a view out the window.
I'm starting to think that the search may have to continue for a different couch. Most all of the reclining ones they liked had tall backs thus the issue they are having.

@Lilysmom1 Thank you for the tip. Here are photos of the entire room.

What I'm going to suggest probably would not fit their taste at all
But an update might be a sectional...and thIs type is usually lower?
Might not fit their lifestyle, but my question is this...
How many people are they wanting to seat at once?

@LAllyR It's their house and their couch but in my humble opinion those are some ugly couches. But to each their own. If they were my parents I would back off and let them select what they want. That way you can't be blamed if the couches do not fit the room.

@rockygems123 I have those panels in my living & dining room windows. I got them from Pier one years ago. I love them but plan on replacing them with shutters next year when we paint the room.

@LAllyR As others have suggested, I would go with a pair of nice chairs with a table in the front window. Are you also adding a love seat on an adjoining wall? The chairs would break up the line high above the window but it's really not terrible to have a couch back above a window like the one shown. I have that in my family room.
As for the couch picked out, I think the older one is much more attractive! The new one looks like a row of seats on a plane in coach.
