Colors for Entry Door and Shutters

We want to add shutters to our home and purchase a new entry door, but I'm confused on choosing colors.

Looking at other homes in our area, I see a resemblance in the shutter color and the roof.

Would this be a rule of thumb to go by? Also, how do you determine a nice color for the front/entry door? Is it determined by the color of the home or brick color?
