Re: Cold!! So glad I have Duraflame....

@hoosieroriginal

Are you in Northern IN? You are going to get this deep freeze, too. I will be VERY curious to know what Com Ed is going to be. I've got all the other rooms closed off and pup and I are in the living room. I just bought her a sweater and I will be layered in here as well.

Everybody, be careful in this weather. Watch the elderly including neighbors and pets.....danger.

@Mustang Shar I live in MN so this is a must as I keep my furnance lower as I go from hot to cold in a matter of seconds, having the Duraflame cube, I can move from room to room and with a flick of the switch be at a temperature that is comfortable for me.

@Mustang Shar - No, south of Indianapolis - I got up at 7:30 and my furnace hasn't turned off yet!  Hate to see my bill this month!  Stay warm.

I have 3 Dyson heater/cold fans.  I love them.. But...My cats prefer radiant heat.

Sooooooo I ordered the radiant heater Duraflame that is small (not the one with the fake flame) but I didn't realize it has a fan that blows out the heat.  Now normally it would be nice, but the cats don't like the air, so I'll either have to try to pack it up and send it back or talk my daughter into taking it.

Soooooo it's back to COSTCO to get the same round radiant electric heater I've used for the cats for years!  At the end of last year it seemed like it had a short in it....Am I a good mom, or what?  Ha!

Between the Dyson things and the radiant heater I feel like I'm in the Bahamas!  Cats love heat....

@Annabellethecat66 yes you are a great mom to get your furbabies that heater from Costco . . . those things are awesome, I love walking by one when I leave the store (they have one there for the people that check out the carts before you leave).

This also reminds me when I watched Kirstie Alley's reality show.  She had lemurs on her property and they had a radiant heater for them.  It was hysterical to watch them take turns standing in front of it with their little arms outstretched . . . Smiley Happy

Re: Cold!! So glad I have Duraflame....

We are up to having a Duraflame in just about every room in the house. There is now one in each bedroom and used when it is just chilly enough to want some warmth, but not continuous heat. Our master bath is right with the bedroom and that heater running is just enough to warm the space for showers and dressing. When the temp gets down in the single digits, they run part time along with the regular heat.

One in the living room which helps the kitchen/dining area too.

One in the family room, as it is half underground, and when it gets cold, it stays cold.

One in our unheated laundry room for when I need to be in there for extended periods of time.

One in the basement. That is where the cat's litter boxes are, and they have their own chairs and beds down there (as it is the only truly cool place in the summer). They tend to like to stay down there sometimes, so they have a heater to take the chill off too.

We cycle them according to where we are at the time. Even have one out in the attached garage for times when my husband might be out there working on the car.

I love the look of the various styles and we have at least for different styles. I have three of the lantern ones, and am most excited about those lately.

I have read a number of people say they don't increase the temperature of the room for them. They really aren't designed for places with really high ceilings (hot air rises) and in cold weather, they need to run for a bit of time before it really makes a difference. Here, it is in the low 20's today, and if I am in one bigger room like the family room, I need to let it run continuously while in there to keep the temps up. I think a lot of people assume they are going to turn one of these on when the temps are below freezing and in 15 minutes and a toasty room, but that just isn't the case for most rooms.

These are most efficient in smaller rooms that have average height ceilings, and four walls and a door to close to keep the heat in. Using them in open concept living spaces or places with cathedral ceilings doesn't tend to give the same results.

Re: Cold!! So glad I have Duraflame....

In a way, you all are fortunate as temp swings trigger my fibromyalgia. We ahve been from 80s one day to 28 for the low the next and low 40s for the high and today we are back at 78 for the high and expect 56 low with a high tomorrow a 57 high and 30 odd low. This will continue through Christmas as it will grow cold Monday and warm 70s by Friday. This drastic up and down is killing me, and I just getting over a head cold caused by it. I took two days off of work this week and I haven't been sick in years! I just wish it would get a temp and stay there for a few months. I looked at the country map on weather dot com and saw everyone from Cali to Maine freezing and this little pocket of HOT in the southeast. YEP that is us. I appreciate the rain, as we hadn't had rain in over a month when this all started. And to think there are people still denying global warming! HA!

Re: Cold!! So glad I have Duraflame....

Oh and the A/C is back on today but will be off tomorrow. I get by with some convection radiator heaters instead of cranking up the HVAC heat. We are a country of extremes.
