I don't care for it either.  It's too stripy looking and would start to drive me crazy.

I'm also not a fan of the dark beams on the white shiplap looking ceiling.

Boat deck flooring.  Most likely teak.  Maintained by oiling.

@lolakimono

I appreciate most of the style .. but NOT that ugly floor.  Those "stripes (or whatever you call them)" ruin it." Just doesn't fit the coastal theme IMO.  Also, the fish pics going up the stairs are OK, but my personal taste would rather have coastal birds mixed w/ coastal scenery.  What wins it, is the huge open space, rafters & wall of sliding doors/windows/deck.

Thank you for sharing.

Inlaid flooring is very difficult to do and extremely expensive. While this is not my favorite design in inlaid flooring, I like it and find it attractive. Certainly wouldn't turn it down! The fish would have to go away ASAP.

I don't like the floor at all. There's nothing that really appeals to me in these photos.

I find the floor to be unique and lovely!  I also like the port hole window and the fish pictures fit the coastal home style.  However, the furnishings do not and I would make change in that area.

Perhaps an unusual floor for a home interior, but it is typical teak planking with holly inlay used in boat flooring, more commonly known as cabin soles, not floors.  It is often varnished to keep if from getting dirty as people often walk barefoot on boats and the feet transfer oils that attract stains. It's very comfortable underfoot in a boat cabin.

I've seen it on decks, but less often. Maintenance for this as deck material is enormous as it requires upkeep and it's very vulnerable to sun and saltwater. So it's more often used below.

I've sailed all my life and often on very big sailboats. The teak and holly flooring in the relatively limited cabin space is very beautiful. Used so extensively in the house shown, and so deliberately derivative  might be overkill. Just my opinion. I love boats. This is a house. I wouldn't install winches and cleats in it any more than overuse boat flooring.

Contrary to what one comment here said, this is very much related to "coastal" themes since the owner was obviously keeping with a boat theme. Is there something more coastal than a boat?

here is a photo of teak and holly inlay in typical use on a boat (narrower planking in proportion to the smaller area

I don't care for the flooring and the cockail table is too big for the area.  Other than that it looks expensive -- leather sofas.

Re: Coastal Home, Unusual Flooring

I love the flooring but it's not something I would ever want for my home.  It would be OK for my yacht.  I LOVE that porthole window.  Overall, I like most of the furnishings individually but putting them all together is not working for me.  Not sure why either.....maybe I need to study the pics a bit more.
