Hi everyone. I opened my closet recently and saw a moth. I don't know if it is a clothes moth--I have never found any holes in my clothes. I do know for sure that we also have carpet beetles. So basically I want to fumigate my closet for the sake of protecting my treasured clothes.
My plan is to put up a modern moth-ball substitute (No-Moth, which uses a less concentrated pesticide) in the closet for a week or two. Then, I will transition to natural preventative methods such as lavender and cedar sachets.
My main question is whether 2 weeks of the pesticide will be enough to get rid of any moths and carpet bugs that are in there now. There is an alternative that is a spray that lasts 6 months, but I'd like to avoid having chemicals there for that long if I can. This closet is in an efficiency apartment with a dog (where we live for part of the year) so all the space is sort of communal. I don't like the thought of having pesticides, even in a closed closet...but I also care about my clothes and don't want to lose them.
Suggestions? And will 2 weeks be enough??
Thanks!
