Re: Christmas Tree when you live alone

I love the Holiday Season!   I'm 72 years old and each year, my holiday tree has gotten smaller.

I still decorate the house and I will always put up a tree, small though it may be.

I love looking at the lights in the evening.

@OhioAngel

Why not put up one any way?  Even if you just put up a small one, if might make you feel more cheerful for the holidays.

There is just my DH and I and we still put one up.  It is artificial and is about 4 1/2 feet.  It gets harder every year but as long as we can we will do it.  We enjoy it very much and makes us happy looking at it!

When I lived alone and before DH and I get together, I always put up a small tree and other decorations.  It's nice to be surrounded by the pretty things of the holiday.

Re: Christmas Tree when you live alone

I have lived alone since 1975. Until about 12 years ago, I put up a live 6 ft. tree. When my health declined, I skipped any tree for two years, but then I switched to a prelit tree.  My latest prelit tree, is a 3 ft. one from QVC. Of course, the rest of my place is decorated too. No one visits for the holidays and no one brings presents, but I enjoy having a tree and a decorated home. I start decorating early so that I can enjoy my tree for as long as possible.  Of course, everyone is different, but having a tree makes me happy.

If you want to put up a tree please do so. It's not silly at all to put up a tree if you live alone. When I lived alone I still put up a tree.

@fingerlakesny  love your name!  Grew up going to my grandparents summer house on Skaneatlas Lake.  Sure do miss the concord grape pies at this time of the year - we live in VA now.

A friend of mine who decided he was done with the whole tree and holiday decor conundrum decided to simply have an absolutely beautiful, sumptuous, and abundant live floral arrangement on a center table in his living room. A true traditionalist would, of course, have missed the tree, but the look was festive and gorgeous and when the arrangement went kaput, it was easy to toss out. Because of the flowers chosen and the way the arrangement was put together, it looked presentable for a good 10 day period. The same could be done with silk flowers if anyone would prefer something longer lasting or something that might be used more than once.

Re: Christmas Tree when you live alone

Do what makes you happy.  If you really would like one, get a prelit one so it's easy for you.  That's probably what I would do.

It's just me and hubby and I just asked him if our son plans to come home for Christmas.  We don't know yet (he lives out of state and is engaged).

If he's not, I'm seriously considering just skipping it this year.  I like some decorations but a full tree with a lot of decorations just isn't necessary anymore (in my opinion).  My parents and siblings are gone, same with hubby (he has siblings but they do their own thing).

If you have grandkids I can see putting one up.  I don't have any.

We did do something different last year - we have a shed that's visible from the living room window and my hubby put up a lighted wreath outside on the shed door.  Really cute - wreath.jpg

Re: Christmas Tree when you live alone

@OhioAngel   If you enjoy the holiday why not?  However, I downsized my tree size to a table tree and it keeps getting smaller.  If you don't want a tree perhaps you could put out some Christmas decorations.  I love the holidays so I do enjoy decorating when I am feeling okay.

I live in a small condo but still decorate for Christmas and I have a pre-lit artifical tree. The decor puts me in the mood for the Holidays and makes me happy....Christmas Tree on emojidex 1.0.34
