It is just me and my SO but he isn't a Christmas person and we do not entertain but I love my tree. I just turn the lights off in the room and enjoy it way into Feb or later. Last year I had several broken bones in one arm and while I struggled I put up the tree and decorated it by myself for me.

I live with my husband and it's been at least a decade since we put up a tree. We don't "entertain" so to me there's no point of going through the hassle of putting up a tree. I do put up my nativity set and display my ornaments.

For me it was not so much alone or not, but whether the kids were around or I traveled to see them.

I just have no Christmas spirit this year. The only thing I'll do is put up my Valerie wreath on my front door. I always go for the earliest delivery.

It 's just the DH and me. I always put up a huge tree for my family. My kids and DH love a decorated tree...me, not so much.
I absolutely hate putting up a tree and the taking it all down. Two years ago, I was so stressed out that I actually sat down and cried. I swore that was the last tree for me.
Last year, I put up an artificial slender 3 ft flocked tree with white lights already on it. It was "planted" in a nice decorative pot. I bought a red cardinal and clipped it to one of the branches. That was our tree.
Everyone who saw it loved it and I did too. No mess and no stress. I put it in a large plastic bag to store it until this year.
I told my DH that if he wanted to put up a large tree, he should on his own. He didn't. He still puts lights on the windows and then takes them down.
A tree does not make it Christmas, it just makes more work. Some people enjoy it, many do not.

@Carmie I did the exact same thing. I dreaded doing a huge tree so a couple years ago I bought a 3’ slender flocked white light tree and put maybe 10 or so ornaments on it and set it in the living room next to the fireplace. It is so easy, looks great and it’s perfect for the two of us.

It's not about living alone; a lot of people opt not to put up Christmas trees when there are no children in the home. On the other hand, some people live alone and go all out with a 7 foot tree and all that goes with it. There are many ways to celebrate Christmas and none of them require a tree. Do what works for you.

I don't see what living alone should have to do with the decision to have a Christmas tree. It should be an individual person's desire and want. I personally don't anymore. I have many lovely ornaments collected over the past 45 years that stay in storage. The spirit just doesn't move me. I have no place to store an artificial tree and don't have the means to bring a real tree in and out of my condo by myself.
