@beach-mom wrote:Tinsel - and DH is a stickler about carefully separating each strand. We have real trees (my mom's family owned a Christmas tree farm). He doesn't put any on the bottom branches because of the kitties, but none of ours has ever bothered tinsel. They do like to bat the (unbreakable) ornaments on the lower branches.
@beach-mom I had to smile at your response. I have a new shelter kitty we adopted in July. I'm wondering if anything I do will survive our little boy. He is orange and white and quite rambunctious. Adopting a kitty at our age was iffy, but, we have an appointed Godmother so he will always be taken care of.

@faeriemoon wrote:I have never cared for things wrapped around a Christmas tree, whether it be garland, ribbon, pearls, beads, etc. And personally, I don't like tinsel.
Occasionally, I insert silk/sparkly flowers among the branches, but it's not something I do every year.
All of my ornaments - silver, gold, bronze, white- are glass and sparkly, so I don't really need more glitz to make the tree shine.
Whatever floats your boat I say.
@faeriemoon I'm sure your tree is beautiful, and, you are right. I think your tree really reflects your own personality and traditions.

@Georgiagrama wrote:@Spurt You can still get them, but this isn't what I was referring to. I use the long strand that you wind around and around your tree. It's supposed to look like snow on the branches, although I've never understood how silver was supposed to look like snow. 😊
OK I understand, it was more of a silver garland that you wrap abound the tree...I used to use the garlands but stopped doing it just to change the look of the tree decor

I don't use either. I was one of the last to give upon garland though, only eliminating it about five years ago. I had the most thick, beautiful garland, I just had a hard time stopping it's use. But I was amazed when I really considered it, just how dated it was making my tree look (and not in a good way! lol).
I will say I like trees done in all different ways.
Post pictures once you decide and get it done!

Neither, but I have gold and burgundy beads that we drape on the tree.

Your tinsel "talk" reminds me of dear mom. She would place few strands carefully on tree and when iT came time for tree to come down she meticulously retrieved each strand. Saved for next year.

@Twins Mom Your Mom sounded like mine with saving the tinsel. Mine let me paste cotton balls for snowballs on our front windows. Then after Christmas she had me scrape them off but I had to save them. I tried but they weren't in very good condition!
One year she put Angel Hair on the tree, (spun glass). My grandmother who lived next door kept telling me not to touch it because it was glass. It was beautiful with the lights on.

I remember opening gifts and setting aside wrapping paper to flatten for next year!
Funny, loving memories! I think we both really appreciated the holiday for genuine reasons.

Would you tell me how you might use the ribbons? I am fascinated by this idea.
