Cats will eat tinsel, I learned that the hard way.

I don't use tinsel, since I have two cats. If they are able to pull it off the tree and play with it, it could prove dangerous if it is ingested. Don't need any vet bills. I think if you could get a silver ribbon from Joan's Fabrics, that should give you the effect that you want.

I have berry garland I got in a Christmas shop. Perfect for being in the woods.

That's a marvelous Idea to use baby's breath @Somertime!
I was going to add bits of faux snow, but I really like your idea even more! Thank you ! 🙂
eta...your Balsam Hill tree sounds stunning!

We always used tinsel in my childhood home. When I got my first apartment and my own tree I purchased strings of beads. I’ve never gone back to tinsel. We currently put strings of red beads on a green tree with ornaments and a red tree skirt. Love that look.

@Georgiagrama wrote:Do you use Tinsel or Ribbon on your tree? I've always used silver tinsel - always. I like the way it shimmers when the lights are on and I take great pains to drape it just perfectly.
However, I've seen some beautiful ribbon on the Wal Mart online site. I'm teetering 🤷♀️
A long time ago I used to use tinsel I liked the way it looked, but then some cats came into my life that thought it was silver spaghetti....and its dangerous...it can cause a blockage in their intestinal tract.... So I ditched it.... I tried ribbon but it just didnt fit in with my vintage look tree.....

@Kachina624 wrote:@Georgiagrama Can you still even buy tinsel? I haven't seen it used for years. I can just see my dad meticulously placing every strand.
They are selling it on Amazon....

@Georgiagrama The past few years I've used Valerie's slim glistening tree, it glows and doesn't need tinsel. I used beaded fruit and it's so easy especially when it's put away.
This year it will just be me. No friends to party. No family.
I'm going to use boxes of gold and peacock ornaments, maybe some glass birds I won't do much it's a slim tree but I want it to sparkle!
I found lacy beige beaded wide wired ribbon on sale and used it last year. It even looks embroidered. The bow is at the top of the tree and the ends are long and go to each side. It glistens, no tinsel needed.
I have more time to take it down now staying at home, no grandchildren can come or great grandchildren
I'll do it for the memories of the past and my own enjoyment.
We had tinsel in trees when I was a child. It was always sad seeing them on the street for trash pick up and some tinsel still on them.
Now there are glass ornaments that look like tinsel or icicles, swags and I've used silver beads and pearls. Mirrors reflect lights also.
You have lots of options to tinsel!

@Azcowgirl wrote:I think what you're describing is the silver garland that is one looooong piece rather than the tiny strands that come in a package, is that right @Georgiagrama ?
@Azcowgirl Exactly. I haven't used the strands in years because of my cats.

@Spurt You can still get them, but this isn't what I was referring to. I use the long strand that you wind around and around your tree. It's supposed to look like snow on the branches, although I've never understood how silver was supposed to look like snow. 😊
