I want to make a sympathy card for a special friend. My thought is a couple of dried pressed flowers...on the front of the card with some text.  I know what I want to say but my concern is the flower.

It will be dry and flat and it will also be a 'natural' flower maybe goldenrod. I will have to adhere the flower to the card stock...and the stem will be thin.  I have not done this before and I don't want the flower to drop off the card....is anyone a crafter that has done this and can give me some advice.

I know I can order a card, just like what I described  but I prefer to make it my self...my only sticking point is the flower.

@Mom2Dogs.  Do you have some flowers already pressed and dried?  There's not much available this time of year.

You could glue them on using white glue, which dries clear so it wouldn't be seen.

How are you going to do the lettering?  Best to do it first since it's more subject to mistakes, smudges etc. Flowers could easily be damaged while doing lettering.

@Kachina624   Flowers are available on ETSY.   I have texured card stock and will use my computer to set up the type and run thru my printer....then glue the flowers to the card....one sided card no folds.

@Mom2Dogs   I can't offer any help in that area, but I want to tell you what a lovely, personal thing that is to do for your special friend.  I'm sure your card will be beautiful and she will treasure it always!

@Citrine1    Thank you, I do enjoy doing special projects.  I know I could order what I want but I prefer to make it myself, except..what if it falls apart, LOL??

My friend's husband is dying...they have such a resiliant faith and I have never heard either one of them complain or ask why me...they just accept what is happening. Of course there is deep sadness as they know what is coming...I really admire her.  

It may be morid thinking about a card before the death but I know he does not have long to live, he went into hospice yesterday.

@Mom2Dogs, it sounds like a beautiful idea.

I've never done this, and haven't crafted much in years, but from past experience these are my suggestions.

Plan to do at least one trial card.

I would use something like a spray adhesive on the back side, press it down then put something weighted upon it. Wait for it to dry. 

Then cover it with Mod Podge. It's inexpensive and readily available at craft stores. Comes in matt or gloss.

See if you like how it turns out.

@Etoile308    Good advice...I do have mod podge that I have used on other projects...this might just work!

I also thought about rub on transfers,.the flowers are very realistic but just one dimensional...which is not the look I am going for....this would be a very last resort.

@Mom2Dogs @What a wonderful thought. I don't know the people but, it made me weepy just thinking about your kindness and thoughtfulness.  I would keep that card forever! Your a phenomenal friend!

I've received some beautiful cards that were made with dried flowers topped with and held in place by clear contact paper applied over card stock. 

You can find it on Amazon for about $10 a roll when you search for "clear contact paper." Other words to search for: "clear glossy self-adhesive film cover transparent."
