Can anyone help me with the color grey?

I don't decorate with grey. It just isn't a part of anything I own or have.

The Mirage candles that are back in stock, have a grey choice again. I bought the red, green and cream back last year, and while none of those  colors thrilled me at first, once I got them home, saw the actual shades and the mottling of the colors, I found a million uses for them.

I think I feel the same about the grey, and they call it a neutral, but I don't know how it will mix with other things I have.

The great thing about my decor is that in different areas of the house, I have different color palettes. I like doing this, because I can work into my home, just about anything I love regardless of the color I find it in.

I have some areas that are brown/tan cream shades. I have one room that is forest green and dark rose colors, and one that is blue and pink (prettier than it sounds).

So those of you that are so good with color, how does this grey fit in my life? How do I make it fit as a neutral anywhere, or maybe it doesn't?

Help! Any suggestions and input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Can anyone help me with the color grey?

Around here, painting a room gray is popular.  Two neighbors painted their living rooms gray.  I think if I was going to put some gray candles in a room, I'd find something else that was grey to help carry the color.  Like a pillow, a throw, curtains or a picture.

Grey is a neutral and works well with other neutrals and pops of color. I love mid-century modern, so I like it with turquoise/aqua, cream, and orange or pink.

Light and medium greys go well with pops of color:

Answering Your Questions, Part 2: What Colors Work With Gray?

I think greys would go well with forest and rose or blue and pink.

Think about a garden with green leaves, pink roses, and a grey sky during a rain.

Grey goes with navy or light blues, as well as pinks. I love mid-century modern, so pink, grey, and turqouise are a great mix for me.

Greys go well with black, white, and cream, like the colors of pebbles.

Well, I think you know by now that I'm big on grey.  All of my walls are grey. It's interesting that you brought this up, because I just got in from shopping, and one of my visits was to Pottery Barn.  I did  a once-around the store, as I wasn't looking for anything in particular.  One thing I specifically noticed was a beautiful sofa they had on display.  It was a light grey sectional that could be used in either two pieces or one to make a beautiful, long sofa.  They had it set up in a living room-type scenario with a large, distressed trunk in a dark, rich brown as the coffee table, and a cognac, leather chair on the side.  I took note of how well the grey fit in with these other earth tones.  I think it would be a fantastic color to introduce into areas that have brown, tan and cream shades.  It's funny how I had that little revelation in the store,  I think I was meant to share this with you!

This is kind of what I wondered. It seems like a grey candle might not stand alone very well. I have absolutely nothing else grey, and don't see spending money to add something (except these dumb candles that I just can't get enough of!!) because it just doesn't seem to fit with the rest of my things.

I see all the time where people take a pop of something and add it in where they don't normally use that color, but I'm having trouble imagining with the grey.

Thanks for helping! @GCR18

@PeterDM

I was hoping to hear from you, as you are the master of grey!

And how interesting, that they put such a large piece of grey with no other grey accents. I never see grey decor used, unless it is heavily used (or maybe I just never noticed it). And I think it is lovely, I just don't have any!

So your Pottery Barn revelation has me thinking I can't pass up the chance to try my first grey item, and see how it really does mix with the other neutrals in my life! I'm wondering if it will look good in a vignette with some pastel things for Easter. I don't do much Easter decor but do have some pastel primitive birds that I could build something with.

That's it! I'm heading over to order those grey Mirage candles.

Thanks for the insight.

I tend to be matchy matchy.  If it were fire engine red, I could see it's the pop of color and that's all you need.  I don't buy anything where the color doesn't fit in with the colors I have going on.  I like a lot of the candles on the q, but I don't consider them because of the colors.

@Mominohio -- Hey, I gotta make this suggestion (just look at my name lol) Make a grouping of the gray candles with your red candles!  It's BUCKEYE great!

@Mominohio

I was going to reference something I'd read on Houzz recently about neutrals in a room.  The premise was that we should pick whether our neutrals were grey tones or beige tones.

However, once I looked at the candles here, they seem to have both silvery and beigey tones so I think you'd be OK wherever you chose to place them.
