David Netto did a fantastic job with this historic cottage.  It's an amusing, small counterpoint to the more formal Dennis Basso beach digs.  ( I like both.)

I'd feel like I was on vacation year-round, in this living room. He combines midcentury with beachy rattan and some traditional details, in a happy mix.

The entry doubles as the dining room.  Woven texture lamp and bentwood keeps things relaxed.

Whoa, krazee kitchen!  Fun.

Sweet bedroom with dainty wallpaper, antique quilt, and beachy rattan/ bamboo bed.

Re: CUTE HAMPTONS BEACH COTTAGE

Absolutely love the untamed look of the yard, wonderful for my eyes! The entry is perfect for iced tea and a fab fruit salad or ain intimate dinner for 4. I don't care for the rattan furniture in the livingroom but prefer it to the over-worked wicker I probably would have chosen. The kitchen and bedroom don't appeal to me, too busy though I loove the kitchen garden/farmer sink!

Very nice home.  I love almost everything about it, but that kitchen hurts my eyes.  And yet, somehow, the busy paper in the bedroom doesn't!

I agree, the kitchen and bedroom doesn't appeal to me either.

Re: CUTE HAMPTONS BEACH COTTAGE

I knew the kitchen would be a sticking point for almost everyone!

@We rescue cats , @Citrine1 , @JYWilliams ,  agree that that kitchen is too much, for me too on a daily basis.

I guess I'm carried away by the "vacation spirit" of the cottage, and if I'm there for a short time, I could get into the kooky mood of that kitchen...

Wouldn't need caffeine in the morning.

But, basically, you three are right!

@Oznell   For me, my main complaint with the kitchen isn't even the walls.  It's the clash of color between the walls and cabinets.  To my eye, they don't go together well at all.

Re: CUTE HAMPTONS BEACH COTTAGE

IMO, David Netto's job was not fantastic, but rather a missed opportunity.

I don't find the interior to be cozy, chic, inviting, relaxing, or comfortable. It lacks cohesion & looks cheap. I do find the kitchen to be krazee, but I find it unappealing rather than fun.

I'm wondering what a different designer could've done with that cottage.

@Oznell  I'm also wondering if the websites where some of the designs are found have objective descriptions instead of subjective descriptions. I realize some designers & sites try to toot a "designer's" horn to help them succeed.

Re: CUTE HAMPTONS BEACH COTTAGE

To answer your question, @Desert Lily ,  I don't really pay attention to the 'tone' of the online depictions of various houses, in this case, the Hamptons cottage shown by House and Garden UK.  Since they are showcasing them, they probably in all cases are at least favorably disposed to the houses.

Unless it's one of those sites that exist to mock various interiors, but those don't appeal to me.  If I'm going to go to the trouble of showing a house here to my fellow design aficionados, it's in most cases going to be one that I like, for the most part.

For good or ill, I tend to be fairly catholic in my tastes, and this cottage, esp. the living room, really caught my fancy, with its eclectic, happy overall vibe.  That's the carefree, summery feeling I long for right now!

Re: CUTE HAMPTONS BEACH COTTAGE

I didn't think there were any more "cottages" in the Hamptons!  Some friends and I rented a house in Quoque one summer in the early '80s.  Have no idea what that area looks like now.

My only issue is the wallpaper.  I'm not a fan.  Love it otherwise.

Thank you Oznell.  Always enjoy your posts.

I'll take the bathroom & the screened porch.
