CHEAPEST way to Clean a Cotton Rug?

I have a hand-wovern rug made out of T-shirt yarn, but I can't hand-wash it because it's too big.

What's the cheapest way to clean this kind of rug?

Is it like most braided rugs - tightly woven and heavy?

Me - I would shampoo with a light weight steam carpet cleaner (like the Bissell for $99 shown on QVC) using a minimum amount of water and liquid carpet shampoo.  Don't soak the rug.

If it's tightly woven - not that much water will get down deep in the yarn; but it will lift up the surface soil..which is what you want - I think.

The machine's extract feature will pick up most of the water used.

@RinaRina

We had a woven lanai rug we both at Homegoods a few years ago.  When I updated the lanai, I wanted to donate it or place it outside our garage with a Free sign.  However, it had accumulated so much blown in debris that I had to wash it first.

Our solution was to put it down on the concrete; vacuum it; wash it down with a hose, soapy water and a stiff long-handled brush.  We dried it over 2 sawhorses outside.

LAUNDROMATS usually have extra large washers available for bedspreads, comforters, and other large items

I checked 3 already.

The machines were too small.

If you have a pressure washer then use that on it outside on the cement. It will take forever and a day to dry so lift it up off the ground and let the air circulate beneath it. You can also extract some of the water from it using a carpet cleaner, for example a Bissell or Hoover steam type carpet cleaner.

If it will not fit in any washer, then the cheapest way is the old hose in the driveway.  Pick a sunny week 🌞
