All I can say it ''life happened' at my house and it is to my advantage for me to build another house and downsize...sad as the circumstances are that made this necessary, another story for another time. I always said I'd never be involved in building another house, to overwhelming for me ! Today we are purchasing the lot and I am going to have to eat my words about building again. I don't know where to start. I'd like it to be a'' turn key'' kind of experience, picking out paint, cabinets, carpet, etc. is not my 'forte' ! If you have any suggestions, as to how to make this daunting task any easier, I sure would appreciate it ! Thanks.

Hire an interior decorator

Hire a decorator. He/She will question you about your taste and do the legwork. You will not have to go anywhere, they will bring you samples and you can make your choices. The next best thing would be to find a "home" store that carries most things for a home under one roof so you don't have to go to many places for different rooms. Good luck, I envy you. I would love to build a house.

If it feels that daunting a task there are other options. Building a home. especially now is a major challenge. If you must....then I would accept the inevitable and do my best to enjoy the task appreciating that I have the option. Everything always starts with mindset. Wishing you the best!

I've been general contractor for several builds and the least 'daunting' task is picking out cabinets and paint color.
Waiting on permits, dealing with different engineers, finding the best in their craft and-- weather---is the worst sometimes.
Interior decorating is the icing on the cake for me. If that's the part you don't like, as others have suggested, let someone else help you.
Good luck to you. We're moving within the next 2 months to our latest (and smallest!) build. Crazy thing is, it's worth three times more now than when we started. I'm so excited!

Hire someone to help you with decisions if you are not confident in doing it yourself. Go online and get some ideas of what you like, and research the style of the house you want so you can get a feel of what you want the finished product to look like. Pinterest is a good tool. Houzz is a great website for this too.

@sarahpanda All I can say is I wish you the best of luck. Having done that daunting task 20 years ago (I was only 41) and it nearly killed me. Of course we were working like crazy at the time, I had two kids in their late teens and found the whole thing very overwhelming. Having said that, I loved my home and lived there for 15 years. We did sell and moved into a townhouse 3 years ago and I have to say, it's an adjustment for sure. I too have vowed to NEVER build another house. I think the way things are nowadays it is going to be a tough road. There are two sides to the coin though, it is the only way to get exactly what you want. If I were to do it again (and eat my own words) I would still pick out everything myself as I wouldn't leave it in the hands of anyone else.
I know what I like, but that's me. Sending you strength ![]()

Design your pantry so it's next to garage. Build a small door from garage to pantry so you can easily slide in your groceries into the pantry without lugging them into the kitchen from the car. Go to Pinterest for visuals.
Here is one I found from the website designlovesdetails.com. It is just the 2 of us now but we still buy some things in bulk from the warehouse store. This would make it easier.

Storage, storage, and more storage. Make use of every little inch of space.
I love the idea of a pantry between the kitchen and the garage.

@PMG055 Thank you for taking the time to post a picture...that is a really good idea ! Now if I can just find a house plan, I'd be in business ! I'm looking for one not over 2000 sq. ft, in case anyone comes across one.
