I don't think they are in all 50 states ,  I thought they were only in the southwest and western part if the country.  I live on the east coast and I don't think we hsve them... Could be wrong though .. Yikes!!

Re: Brown Recluse Spider

[ Edited ]

When I worked in the veterinary field we had a military family who moved into the area from Georgia.  Their Labrador Retriever had been bitten by a Brown Recluse Spider while they were stationed there.     He was brought to us to continue the treatment.    The dog's side was completely denuded of his skin and the large wound was seeping.

The owner told us that by the time they arrived in our town the wound was more than halfway healed.     He showed us pictures of how it looked in the beginning.

What was so amazing was the dog's demeanor.  Even though he had to be in such pain he was so friendly and easy to work with.    There's nothing like the happy spirit of a Retriever.

Until that day I never realized that a spider bite could do that much damage.

I've always been afraid of spiders and after seeing that I knew my fears were rational.

@Texas Gray Wolf: My "reclusive" spider bit my toe in my driveway, years ago, as I was getting my kids out of the van. I didn't know it, but by the time I entered the house, I had shooting pains from my foot up my leg. Went to the doctor, as I had no idea what was wrong. It was treated, but turned gangrenous, & was a mess for awhile!
