Re: Bought a new washer today.

I love my Speed Queen Washer and Dryer. I have the set that has the old fashioned knobs- no motherboard to deal with. Yes they were more expensive but definitely worth the money. I wanted one that had the knobs , that was a deal breaker for me, bc my past set of LG had the motherboard that messed up within 2 years and just to costly to repair.

When we bought a new washer a few years ago DH said Speed Queen is what we have to have--

he likes the agitator, the durability (stainless steel tub), the reliability, the lack of technological gadgets, and the fact they can tolerate heavy duty loads and clean everything!

Yes, they cost a bit more, but truly worth it.

Our Kenmore lasted over 30 years, and we expect the same with our Speed Queen!

Re: Bought a new washer today.

We replaced our 17 year old Speed Queen washer and dryer less than one month ago.  We bought Maytag instead of Speed Queen.  My husband is 74 and we decided we didn't need to spend so much money on the set because it would be around longer than us.  WHAT A MISTAKE!!!

The new washer and dryer are noisy.  There's no soak cycle.  I would just turn the Speed Queen off and set a timer.  On the new washer, the lid locks when you put a load in.  Then, drains the water out of the washer when you turn it off.  You really do get what you pay for.   I had a Maytag before the Speed Queen that lasted 20 years.   For all of our trouble, we have gotten the run around from the store and a $50 gift certificate.

@Pooky1.  Wow, for that price, a maid should have come with it.  Have fun doing laundry.

Speed Queen is the best, so it should last a long time. We only do four loads a week, so when we bought a new set in spring, I didn't think we needed the best. Ended up with a GE commercial set.

Re: Bought a new washer today.

Several years ago we were in the market for a new washer/dryer.  I called a woman who owned an appliance repair business for many, many years.  She had just retired.  She said the only washer she would recommend is a Speed Queen.  That's what we bought and have been very happy with it.

Re: Bought a new washer today.

Like @sunshine45 I have the TR7 that I bought last year.  It is far from being a crappy washer.  lol  All washers, even those with knobs, are controlled by computers.  They may not have quite as many electronic components as washers with touchpads, but don't be fooled into thinking you don't have a computer-run washer.

I wanted the variable water levels, since it is just my husband and me and we mostly do small to medium loads.  There are so many settings and programs to choose from, and I've never had a problem with my clothes not getting clean.  As far as a lid lock, I don't see what the big deal is.  If you want to throw something else in, you just hit pause, and the lid unlocks.

At any rate, enjoy your new washer.

Re: Bought a new washer today.

We replaced our old Kenmore washer/dryer set with the Speed Queen two years ago.

My set has the digital screens and so far, no problems and I like the customization of what I need to wash.

Yes, they are expensive and they make a lot of noise, but I love that I can wash blankets and comforters without going to the laundrmat.

@kaydee50

You could be right if you are a small household.

Around here, I do laundry for four people, so about 16 loads a week.

Re: Bought a new washer today.

@kaydee50  Agree. Can't imagine $1700 for washer, especially since I'm old and do only 3 loads a week. Don't need a washer to last 20-30 years. 10 years should do it nicely at my age. 😄. Now if I were a young mom doing loads of cloth diapers like we did way back when, maybe I could talk hubby into a Speed Queen.
