Is it necessary to wash new blankets before using them?

ABSOLUTELY! I wash all bedding before use, because I do NOT trust the companies to remove all of the harmful solvents used during the manufacturing process.😊

I always wash things like towels, bedspreads and blankets before using -

Gets any dust or debris out, also chemicals or sizing used in the 'finishing' process.

Most of these things are not manufactured in the USA, I don't feel comfortable unless they are washed first.

Yes. I wash everything before I use it or wear it.

I wash everything before I use it or wear it.  The exception would be a coat that requires dry cleaning and I no longer have any of them.

It would never occur to me to wash a new blanket before using it.

I wash everything before using, with the exception of coats or things that need dry cleaning, of which I seldom purchase. Whatever chemical they use on fabrics during production smells bad to me. I've got a Berkshire throw in the washer right now, one I received yesterday. I know washing it before using will take away that smell and remove the chemicals, or at least some of them. When I snuggle up in it tonight watching Christmas movies, I'll be sure it's clean.

I wash everything before using/wearing them. All clothes, blankets, etc etc, are made/preserved using chemicals that an irritate the skin, or worse. And who knows how many hands or machines touched them before they were packaged.
