Berber carpet - anyone have it?

I have to make a decision this week about flooring for my bedroom. I'm thinking about berber carpet because I think it will hold up well. The downside is that it doesn't seem very comfortable on bare feet. Do any of you have thoughts about using it on a bedroom floor?

Re: Berber carpet - anyone have it?

We love it. We have it up the back stairs out of the kitchen then into a smaller bedroom. Light in color and a diamond pattern. Very nice on the feet. VERY easy to keep clean, shows no dirt. Although we do not wear shoes up the stairs or in the bedroom.

For 18 yrs. the same carpet has been down since by son moved out. We now use that as our main staircase to get to upstairs. It shows no wear, at all. It is great carpet. I did purchase higher end, may make a difference.

Re: Berber carpet - anyone have it?

We have berber in the family room and the living room. Years ago, I thought it was a more casual carpet, and didn't mix well with more elegant furnishings. After having it for 20 years, and seeing just how well it held (still holding) up, I redid my son's room and put berber in there as well.

I love a thick, plush carpet, but they tend to wear and mat, even with gentle use and good cleaning habits. When it does so, I think it detracts from the whole room.

I would like to get more wood and tile floors in my house, and get rid of carpet, but should I choose carpet again for most areas, I would go berber over any other I've seen, just because it wears so well, and lasts so long. They have lots of colors and some with some sculpting now that look much more high end than back in the day.

I have berber carpeting in three of our bedroooms. We have had it close to ten years, and it has held up well. I walk on mine barefoot, with no problems, however it does not have the feel of plush carpeting. Mine has medium traffic, does not mat.

We have clipped Berber in our family room and it is wonderful. It holds up well but is also soft when you walk on it.

We've had it for years and plan to replace the old with new. I love it since it wears well and doesn't have a path after you vacuum like plush.

I think pet hair gets into it easily but does not come out easily. But it is very durable!

Re: Berber carpet - anyone have it?

Thanks everyone, I think I'll go with berber. Right before Christmas we put plush carpeting in our living room, hall and guest room. I like it when it is vacuumed, but I just don't like the path you see once you start walking on it. Not that I'm OCD about it, but I wish it didn't show the footprints. We have no pets in our house so it's pretty easy to keep the carpet clean.
