Magnificent design but I wouldn't want to climb the stairs, just admire them!

I think the blue color of the wrought iron rail is gaudy.

Our state capitol building has staircase like that.  The fact that it makes one dizzy is the way it was photographed.  Ours looks like that in photographs but in situ, taking one floor at a time, it does not bother you.

I think @ECBG has climbed this staircase before and this is showing only 2 of the floors.  It's the visual of the whole that makes you dizzy.  I have on more than one occasionThere are 102 steps in #Biltmore Grand Staircase! 📷: @thislifeismylove | Biltmore house, Biltmore estate, Historic homes

Stairway To Heaven song by Led Zeppelin came to mind as soon as I saw this, lol. But you are right @Kachina624 it does make one dizzy. That is surely an engineering/architectural marvel!

Wow! How beautiful!

I remember going into homes when we lived in Georgia and seeing staircases like this. As a young girl I would run to the top and look down to the bottom. I wasn't afraid of heights - yet!

Now when I go up three stories in an old house I grip the railing, and try to avoid going up in the first place!  Smiley Wink

I could go up the staircase. Coming down would be a problem. I would get dizzy.

@Kachina624 ,  the graphic quality of that astonishing staircase is a marvel.  Strong and delicate at the same time.

Reminds one of the eternal swirl of a seashell.  That charismatic loose 'spiral' of a staircase is a motif that appears again and again in film noir, maybe because of the mystery it evokes.

The picture posted would make a nice piece of artwork.  I don't care for the railing (actually the whole staircase), however.  It is too ornate and the color (on my monitor) is  rather harsh against the neutral staircase and walls.  Blue is even my favorite color.  I'm sure it looks different in person.  I agree it would make me dizzy so I'll just take the elevator instead. Woman Very Happy
