Re: Bathroom Tub Caulking Question

When we purchased our home the previous homeowner had placed grout around the edges of the tub where it meets the wall.  We've been in this house for about 12 years and the grout started to crack so my husband put caulk over the cracked grout.  It's now been a few years and mold is showing under the caulk.

We had a company that specializes in grout and caulking services come to our house for an estimate.  The man said he can remove the old caulk and replace it with new.  He said he would use caulk (not grout) as grout cracks.

My husband said he's heard from others that mold gets under the caulk about every 3 years and then has to be re-done.  The man agreed and said, yes, usually it only looks good for that amount of time and then needs to be redone.

We dry the entire tub, walls, etc. after every shower.

Just wondering, do you run into this too and have to have your tub caulking re-done every 3 years?

Thank you!

@BunSnoop  do you turn on your bathroom exhaust fan everythime you turn on the shower? I do and that just might help.

I've never heard of any professional using grout around a tub.

Re: Bathroom Tub Caulking Question

When we remodeled our 70s bathroom in 2010, I was done with the care and cleaning of tile, grout, and caulk. We had a Sterling tub and shower installed, and don't regret it one bit. It's so easy to clean, and there's no caulk or grout to maintain.

5No, 8 us3 Fresh Shower after every shower and have never had any mold.

My guess is your dh failed to remove the old grout, water seeps in because the new grout couldn't adequate seal the crack because of the old grout being in place, allowing mold to grow.  His mistake was not removing the old grout.

I would like to try something like Fresh Shower.  However, couldn't find by that name.

Could it be Clean Shower? Or, maybe the product you like isn't in my area.

Thanks
