Backorders for popular items?

I am wondering what to do. I ordered two sets of Set of 5 Lit Pinecones with Timer by Valerie H197101 in gold on check order. I sent the check in and one set has shipped, the other set is backordered. The gold was the most popular item, and I bet that the order will end up being cancelled. What has been everyone's experience with popular items and backorders? If I am 100% certain of not getting a gold second set, I will ask customer service to send an ivory set and I will give it to my daughter in law. I would rather have two gold sets for myself, though, as my DIL and I have very different taste and she gives away some expensive items I give her. That is like me buying presents for her friends! {#emotions_dlg.sad}
